The Hetzner hardware gave up, and I have to rebuild it.  Elastic (the
company I work for) has donated their Google Cloud resources, so just need
to spend some time on it, and see if a GCP VM would work as well as a bare
metal box.

Effectivement, ce n'est pas joli à voir.


Je viens de corriger. Pour info, c'est parce que j'ai augmenté le nombre de
connections mysql autorisées, sans penser à monter le nombre de process
autorisés sur cette VM.

[OSM-talk] OSM DB down for maintenance

I noticed that the database is down for maintenance this morning.
I couldn't find any announcement for this downtime so it sounds like it
was unplanned. Can anyone shed any light on what is going on, and when
it is likely to be back up again?

is unresponsive and couldn't be rebooted remotely. Some admins are 
on-site (or on their way) to give it a kick. In the meantime it seems

until all services work properly again.

Nobody is on their way anywhere actually... We won't be able to get 
access to the site until Tuesday.


I have got things up and running in read-only mode now against a backup 
machine, and that is probably how things are going to have to remain for 
the next couple of days.

Apparently they're doing something now because the map at 
www.openstreetmap.org was fine 10 minutes ago and is not responding

Hi,

I gave the Walking Papers database a kick and it's back.

FYI, Field Papers was developed for a social science / crisis response client 
and is aimed at more general data collection needs vs. the Walking Papers focus 
on OSM exclusively. Both do multi-page atlases and both produce prints that are 
compatible with the other.

Walking Papers is still not processing uploaded images/scans correctly. Sorry 
about that - I've not been able to give it the attention it needs lately and 
Field Papers has been able to pick up some of the slack in the meantime. I'm 
embarrassed that this particular feature has been down, and I hope to nurse it 
back to health when I have finished up a stack of projects at the end of year.

[OSM-talk] API also down?

Following the rest of the current problems, is the API now also down? JOSM hangs 
on creating a new changeset and then after a while says communication timed out.

should be back now. problem seems to have been an obscure kernel
problem on the machine which hosts GPX traces. much christmas cheer to
Grant for fixing it! :-)

Hi

Is it just me?

I get a 404 error for P2 via Mapquest  through geowiki It loads the 
editor  displays a selected background but no data, even after 10-15 
minutes. I've zoomed in to z17 so it only displays a few residential 
roads so no that much data.


Potlatch 1 works as expected.

Anybody else?

Could you try the Geowiki instance again? I've just tweaked a little problem
that was showing up. (I tend to forget people use the Yahoo imagery. Roll on
Bing. :) )

I sometimes (including now) get this in PL1, where it takes a while to load
the data (usually less than 15 minutes though), and each panning compounds
the issue. I attribute it to the API being slow (just as when JOSM takes a
while to download referrers).

Très étonnant ce qui t'arrive, je gère une dizaine de dedibox depuis leurs 
débuts et je n'ai jamais entendu parlé de ce genre de problème, et n'ai jamais 
eu aucun problème d'ailleurs.

Si ça peut te rassurer (pour autant que ça puisse te rassurer...), je 
viens de relancer NFrance chez qui j'héberge un site.
Mon adresse mail @gmail.com ne marche pas chez eux en automatique. Mais 
l'opératrice que je viens d'avoir arrive très bien à m'envoyer un mail.
Donc je n'ai pas eu de mail d'invitation de renouvellement 
d'hébergement, donc le site s'est bloqué...

Everything works from here. The map, the api, haven't uploaded any tracks, but
I can see them (last one is sGPX_20090811062939.gpx from 4 minutes ago).
I think it is a glitch on your side.

Seems to be up again, but ping is still not working, why? Is it blocked?

I hope you only refer to echo-request and not all ICMP e.g.
destination-unreachable/fragmentation-needed ...

What part of out of our control did you not understand?

Yes indeed those should not be blocked, and as the firewall in question 
is run by professionals I would imagine they have it right. None the 
less, it is not something we have any control over.

China cracks down on illegal online map services to protect state security
BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government is to crack down on 
illegal online map and geographical information websites, claiming they 
threaten state security, said an official of the State Bureau of 
Surveying and Mapping (SBSM) on Tuesday.

Eight departments, including the SBSM, the Ministry of Foreign 
Affairs, and the Ministry of Public Security, said they would tighten 
supervision over online map and geographical information service websites.

Min Yiren, deputy director of the SBSM, said almost 10,000 online 
map websites operated in China, most of them showing maps without approval.

Some websites publish sensitive or confidential geographical 
information, which might leak state secrets and threaten national 
security, Min said.

He said those websites would be closed down.

Foreign organizations and individuals engaging in making and 
publishing online maps in China would also be stopped.

The campaign would also target websites that made mistakes such as 
labeling Taiwan a country, wrongly drawing national boundaries, or 
omitting important islands including the South China Islands, Diaoyu 
Islands and Chiwei Island, said Min.

These websites would be punished and required to make corrections, 
he said.

A hotline has been set up for the public to report illegal websites.

The SBSM put 418 Chinese and world maps on its website for the 
public to check and download.

Last year, China issued a regulation restricting surveying and 
mapping by foreigners to protect national security.

It stipulated foreign organizations and individuals who intend to 
engage in surveying and mapping must obtain approval from the central 
government and accept supervision from local governments.

The current problem is not slashdot - that was pretty much resolved
when I posted last night. Unfortunately a few hours later the network
our machines are on at UCL appears to have ceased functioning...
