I think instead of canal=headrace you meant to write usage=headrace? That's what's in the wiki, and also 1000+ entries seen in taginfo. I've chatted many times to people about millraces, but the term "headrace" (and "tailrace") is new to me. I'll add keywords to the wiki to make searching easier.

"Canal" should surely be restricted to transport functions? Boating apps presumably treat "canal" as a route unless navigation restrictions are added. If the stuff that is moving is the water rather than the boats, "aqueduct" would be the correct term. cheers, Martin.
