[Talk-GB] Saltash/Plymouth

2020-02-16 Thread ael
Are there any local mappers in Plymouth or Saltash?

The Carkeel roundabout and surrounding area has undergone major changes
in the last couple of years. I drive through there occasionally and have
made a few updates mainly based on gps and video, but that only covers
just one through route. The whole area really needs a thorough
survey.

I have just done some very rough and ready changes to the roundabout
based on gps/video but mainly Esri which seems to be the only imagery
which is reasonably up to date. But I have left it in a bit of a mess,
although nearer reality than before.

They're given to everyone. Look at the planning applications. They often
have street names in the documents. Many OSMers are sensible enough not
to add 'proposed' data, as developments are often severely amended or
cancelled. It's much better to wait until there's ground evidence. Much
rather be accurate than first.

all really shady.

There's no reason why they shouldn't. Street names are not a secret. The
same information would be available to anyone who asks. In some cases,
it isn't even necessary to ask, as it's published on the council website.

But at least we can say, even in this case, that OSM
is the more accurate reflection of reality.
No, it isn't. The development has been built and the roads are actually
there, as can be seen from the photos in the media reports. Someone
needs to get down there and do a trace!

That’s usually the way I find out the name of a new road if the sales office is
closed.

Looks like housenumbers have the road name, even if roadsigns aren't
installed.
