Thanks Andy. I think it is intended for locals rather than tourists.
It's in a village on a country lane, not a recognised tourist destination.

On closer examination of my original photo, I think it is advertising a
themed "pub night" at the local village hall (which is nearby), rather
than an actual pub. There is a notice inside with a date and admission
charges.

I found this, but it's rather more than a notice board:

I'd use a "step_count" tag for how many steps there are ("steps" has
also been used, often by me, but is probably less appropriate).  See:

https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org.uk/keys/stile#combinations

I'd be more than happy to add a different sorts of stile icons to
map.atownsend.org.uk .  It'd just need 3 new icons for each new style of
stile at
https://github.com/SomeoneElseOSM/openstreetmap-carto-AJT/tree/master/symbols
and some way of telling them apart at
https://github.com/SomeoneElseOSM/SomeoneElse-style/blob/master/style.lua#L3070
.  All contributions gratefully received!

Sorry, but, to me at least, a "chicane" involves a (double) bend.
See: https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/chicane
" NOUN1.  A sharp double bend created to form an obstacle on a motor-racing
track or a road."
and these seem to involve a narrow "sqeeze", not a double bend.

Running Overpass Turbo, it seems that they are concentrated in a small area, so
probably "hipster" is a local term.
Looking at a well-known global Aerial Imagery source, with links to Street
level photography, shows at least 2 of them (adjacent to roads) to be narrow
gaps in stone walls, so a version of "squeeze".

What do you call the type of wall crossing the that consists of two
stone pillars placed close to each other (usually in a drystone wall) to
leave a gap wide enough for humans and sheep dogs to squeeze through but
not cattle or fully-grown sheep? Has anyone one got a barrier= tag for
them? Just got back from Middlesmoor in Nidderdale where there are ton

I cant really help with the second two (would be really useful to know
about shops which sell out!), but estate agents which have side lines of
business are quite common. They often may have a mortgage broking arm, an
insurance broker or be agent for a building society, and offer surveying
services. These are pretty much all ancillary to their main business
because they represent products they can sell to prospective house
owners/tenants/sellers etc. I therefore think a note is fine. Potentially
you could use insurance[_broker]=yes or similar tags for things which are
ancillary to the main business (as in food=yes on a drinking establishment
or bar=yes for a hotel).

seamark:light:character=whatever the flashing pattern is
seamark:topmark:shape=if it has a topmark, the shape
seamark:topmark:colour=if it has a topmark, the colour

NB: these tags will only be rendered on OpenSeaMap (an overlay to the
StreetMap).

man_made=beacon would be appropriate for the StreetMap, although I don't
know whether this tag is rendered.

Thank you. I've used some of those, but I only saw them during
daytime, so can't comment on the colour or pattern of the lights.

I'd tagged what you all reefs as islands; I've now added reef as well.

   http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/1478159796

with Tag:historic=memorial.

I included the text on each memorial, tagged text. Would that be
better tagged inscription, or with some other tag?

I've used commemoration on a couple of memorial benches in my
village, e.g. http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/1419167468, but
now you mention it, inscription sounds more generic, as there might
be inscribed public objects that aren't commemorative.

I've certainly used inscription when mapping Swedish rune stones ...
so it certainly has flexibility!

How should I tag the fact that a memorial was erected by the Police
Memorial Trust?

The documentation of Tag:historic=memorial

   http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:historic%3Dmemorial

is silent on these matters.

Caveat: My lawyer only allowed me to post this if I point out that as the data
is from Google Earth, we cannot use it in OpenStreetMap.
