Gott kvöld.

Er ekki með neina staðarþekkingu varðandi þessi tilteknu mörk en þess 
ber að geta að ekki öll mörk sveitarfélaga eru óumdeild og tel ég að í 
mörgum tilfellum hafi þau á sínum tíma verið skilgreind á grundvelli 
kennileita, svo sem árfarvegum. Svo geta kennileitin ýmist hafa færst 
til eða glatast með tíð og tíma. Í LUKR-skránni með sveitarfélagsmörkum 
má t.a.m. sjá einhverjar athugasemdir þar sem Reykjavíkurborg nefnir 
einmitt að tiltekinn hluti markanna sé umdeildur.


Ef einhver vill færa inn LMÍ mörkin inn á OSM, þá er það í lagi mín 
vegna. Enn betra ef einhver vill bjóðast til þess að uppfæra þau á OSM 
ef það verða breytingar á LMÍ gögnunum síðar meir.

sveitarfélögum sem nota önnur vensl og flytja inn mörkin sem LMÍ er með 
hjá sér og eru opin og frjálst að nota. Þau væru þá ekki vensluð við 
önnur mörk, vegi, ár, strandlínur eða annað.

Það er í sjálfu sér ekki vandamál að á sé í mörgum hlutum. Lausnin í þeim
tilfellum (sem er nauðsynleg fyrir mjög langar ár; hámarksfjöldi hnúta í
leið á OSM er 2000) er að búa til vensl, sjá til dæmis venslin fyrir Þjórsá

Ég held líka að mismunur á því hvar áin er og hvar mörk sveitarfélaganna
eru hjá LMÍ séu frekar afleiðingar af ónákvæmni, eða af því að áin færist
hægt og bítandi með tímanum. Í þeim tilfellum er líklegra en ekki að mörkin
séu skilgreind út frá raunverulegri staðsetningu árinnar; mörk
sveitarfélaga eru venjulega skilgreind út frá slíkum kennileitum frekar
heldur en út frá nákvæmum hnitum.

Don't worry. These companies are not stupid. And they are all having a 
long record now of contributing to OSM. Sometimes this did not went so 
smooth, but they all demonstrated interest in improving the cooperation.


Maybe think of it more as an analogy to a Linux Distribution.

We are the upstream. We have the latest and greatest data. But also 
sometimes rough edges or vandalism not yet corrected.


Certainly this raw and unvalidated data is not suitable for all 
use-cases. Sometimes you are happy with some slightly older data which 
has passed some validation. And that is then a product these companies 
can use.


Watch some of the SOTM presentations of the big companies of how they 
work with OSM data and their data validation teams. Then it will be 
obvious why you often can't directly use OSM source.


Unless you have extremely good ways of automatically merging in your 
fixes, it will always better to fix problems upstream. And to my 
understanding they are doing that.


And as long as the majority of the data originates from OSM they have a 
strong business interest to keep OSM in a good shape.

Surely OSM has the bandwidth to host these on our own servers. Is there a 
reason we don’t do that rather than relying on 3rd parties?
