My personal experience is that ISTAT data are very bad. In my region (Friuli Venezia Giulia, north eastern Italy) i noticed errors bigger than 100 meters. You can find in borders imported from ISTAT data the the tag source=Based on ISTAT data - 2001 Italian Census. If you got better data just
