My, very conservative, reading of CC-BY 4.0 would indicate that it has

CC-BY 4.0 contains the following (4.b):

if You include all or a substantial portion of the database contents in
a database in which You have Sui Generis Database Rights, then the
database in which You have Sui Generis Database Rights (but not its

Adapted Material is essentially a derivative Work, or using ODbL terms

impossible to create an ODbL collective database from an OSM dataset
including CC-BY material.

Just as a clarification, versions of CC-by prior to 4.0 do not have this
issue, however do not address the issue of database rights at all.

All of the CC-BY licences -do- have the further issue, just as the ODbL,
that they do not allow sub-licensing (which I consider a defect),
however that aspect does not seem to be very high on the priority list
of anybody.

[OSM-talk] OpenStreetMap newbie - help/guidance to convert OSM XML data to .gpx

2015-05-06 Per discussione Ángel de Vicente
Hi all,

a complete newbie to Openstreetmap here, so bear with me... Briefly, what
I'm, trying to achieve is the following: I have a .gpx file from a bike
ride, and I want to use the gps data to get images from those locations
from Google Street View. But, GPS not being that accurate, I first want to
massage the .gpx file and obtain a .gpx file where the coordinates have
been matched to the closest road.

By using https://mapmatching.3scale.net/ I manage to get a good match to
the closest road, but the format for the output file I get is not .gpx
anymore.

To give some details, the .gpx file I get comes from the Endomondo
application, and it looks like:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
[...]
trkseg
  trkpt lat=28.466029 lon=-16.269666
time2014-10-03T07:08:14Z/time
  /trkpt

After using the mapmatching website I get a xml file, which looks like:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8
standalone=yes?resultdiaryentriesentryroutelink
src=278449946 id=101549311 dst=1172664894/link src=\
1172664894 id=158914755 dst=278449944/ [...]

I already have a script that, when given a .gpx file with the format above
will collect the images from Google Street View, with the correct compass
bearings, etc., so I would like to be able to convert the .xml file with
the OpenStreetMap references back to a .gpx format.

Is this possible somehow? Any help/guidance appreciated.

Thanks,
Ángel de Vicente

Ciao Maxx,

renderen.

There's also this proposal for 'virtual highways':

The original proposal uses highway=virtual, I suggested using
highway:virtual=pedestrian/... instead so you don't have to add all

I am not sure whether it is a good idea or not, but the proposal is

Hi,

I do not quite understand what I'd have if I import OSM data into one table
and CC-BY 4.0 data into another table in the database. If the whole database
is then Adapted Material and under CC-BY but not its individual contents,
does it mean that I can truncate OSM tables and deliver the database as
such? Or if I import CC-BY and OSM data into the same table can I do delete
from table where source='OSM' before delivering that as a CC-BY 4.0 database?

I've now looked at the code in POIGeneratorHook.
Attached is a first attempt to solve the problem, the compiled binary
based on trunk version r3564 is here:

http://files.mkgmap.org.uk/download/264/mkgmap.jar

It implements the following:
When POIGeneratorHook creates a POI for a type=boundary relation with
boundary=administrative it searches for a role=admin_centre member in that
relation.
If one is found, the generated POI will use the coordinates of this
member.

Gerd

The OSM data is okay, it is defined this way in the wiki.

The usage of the four most popular contact: entries reaches almost

Hi,

I did ask at the forum, but the reply was that converting the output to
.gpx format is something that they do not support yet...

Thanks

[Talk-at] Fahrradstraße

bicycle=designated
vehicle=destination
maxspeed=30

österreichische Fahrradstraßen was Falsches herauskommen würde.

bicycle=designated + vehicle=destination + maxspeed=30 implizieren wollen,
müssen wir das auch auf
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Access-Restrictions#Austria
bzw.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Maxspeed#Austria
irgendwie vermerken.

[OSRM-talk] Map Matching Plugin Questions

2015-05-06 Per discussione Matthias Schwamborn
Hi all,

I'm currently playing with the new map matching plugin in OSRM 4.6.0.
Great work! It's been really useful for me so far. I also read the
corresponding paper by Newson and Krumm and have some questions about
the implementation:

- Did you implement all of the described HMM break conditions (route
localization, low probability routes, GPS outliers)? After reading the
code in OSRM, I was only able to find the low probability routes
condition. Did I overlook something?

- As far as I understand, MAX_DISTANCE_DELTA corresponds to the delta
when comparing the route length and great circle distance for the low
probability routes condition. The paper states a delta of 2000m, the
implementation uses a delta of 200m. Feature or bug?

- What exactly does the confidence return value mean?

Thanks!

Best, Matthias

Re: [OSM-legal-talk] What extra permissions are needed to include CC-BY data in OSM

2015-05-06 Per discussione Tom Lee

My, very conservative, reading of CC-BY 4.0 would indicate that it has
additional issues over just the attribution problem for databases.
 CC-BY 4.0 contains the following (4.b):
if You include all or a substantial portion of the database contents in
a database in which You have Sui Generis Database Rights, then the
database in which You have Sui Generis Database Rights (but not its
individual contents) is Adapted Material; and
Adapted Material is essentially a derivative Work, or using ODbL terms
a derivative database. The CC-BY terms would however seem to make it
impossible to create an ODbL collective database from an OSM dataset
 including CC-BY material.

I think things are getting a little mixed up. The ODbL refers to
Derivative Databases and Produced Works but not Derivative Works
(well, except one, but I think that line exists because of poor drafting,
not a deliberate choice).

I *think* you are gesturing toward Produced Works and how the full ODbL
does not attach to them, and conflating this idea with CC-BY's Adapted
Material. ODbL Produced Works lose license restrictions; CC-BY Adapted
Material may gain them. Perhaps this contrast is confusing the situation?
Deeming something to be CC-BY Adapted Material gives the creator *more*
control over its license status, not less, because CC-BY is not designed
with virality in mind. This is implicitly affirmed in 3(a)(4), which
mentions the application of other licenses to Adapted Material.

The portion of the license following the and in your excerpt simply
points to CC-BY's attribution requirements, which must follow the
contributed content through into the Adapted Material. These attribution
requirements are extremely generous:

You may satisfy the conditions in Section 3(a)(1)
 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode#s3a1 in any
reasonable manner based on the medium, means, and context in which You
 Share the Licensed Material.

I think the vast quantity of CC-BY licenses data is too important a
resource to ignore given the slightness of this limitation, but I
understand the need for conservatism. One of Creative Commons' US
affiliates is located at a law school here in Washington, DC -- I've
reached out to see if they might be able to help.

Hi Paul,

sorry, let's see if I can explain myself better. The attachment in my

That file contains good data but in a format that I don't know how to deal
with. I would like only to convert that .xml file to a .gpx file with
latitude and longitude coordinates. But when I try to open with JOSM that
file (output.xml), it complains that no data was found (and thus I don't
see any Convert option when I right click the output.xml layer.

I hope now it is a bitt more clear.

Thanks a lot

Re: [Talk-at] Fahrradstraße

2015-05-06 Per discussione Markus Straub

Hallo,

maxspeed=30
source:maxspeed=AT:bicycle_road

bicycle=designated

bicycle=designated + vehicle=destination + maxspeed=30 implizieren wollen,
müssen wir das auch auf
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Access-Restrictions#Austria
bzw.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Maxspeed#Austria
irgendwie vermerken.

segnalarlo in modo dettagliato.

Ho fatto qualche tentativo ieri sera utilizzando come destinazione la
parola Expo.
visualizzasse nulla.
Ho riprovato ora usando come punto di partenza via pietro borsieri e
come arrivo expo 2015 circular road.
Per auto, bici e pedoni nessun percorso disponibile. Con i mezzi viene
trovato un percorso. Ieri avevo provato solo bici.

Uso firefox, non so.

+1

Entro in modalita' debug.

Aun,
mas qual usar?

Pergunto porque não cheguei a conclusão alguma do padrão que estamos empregando
no Brasil.

One issue I have with the postbox map, is the the area it returns is too

Drag the map to the correct place, then click the Permalink button (in

key:fax? key:twitter? key:vhf?

So what would you do with those tags?

If we don't use contact for phone, it makes no sense at all to use it
for something like social media etc.

In addition I think if the emphasis on contact was really that you can
actually contact someone (contact:phone) then contact:twitter is also
flat out wrong, because many companies will not reply and maybe not even
read what you tweet them.

[Talk-se] OpenStreetMap i Göteborgs-Posten

I really do feel like we are missing a trick here. As the map becomes
more and more complete it becomes harder and harder to find something
to map (example: I spend more time trying to find missing footpaths that
I can map on a circular walk now than 2-3 years ago).

An app that helps people find what's missing whilst out surveying could
really help. I only wish I had the skills and time to do this.

The Post Hoc map has the option of exporting a GPX file. That will
include any missing boxes, or boxes with missing refs etc.
So you could download that GPX, then load it onto a Garmin, or on a
phone app etc. For Android, you could try OSMAnd, it can load GPX files.
Or maybe Maps.Me, if you convert it to a KML file.

Then you can go out and survey them. Note the Royal Mail locations can
be very inaccurate, some of them are on completely the wrong street, or
hundreds of metres away. So it can be difficult to actually find the
postbox. And there are a few on the Royal Mail list that have now been
removed, or where the number on the box doesn't match the list.

Giving that the area around belongs to Wasserwerk Vlotho, I guess those are
indeed wells that pump water into the punlic water system. The tagging is
wrong, as Brunnen just means well, and is no name, and those are probably
neither publically reachable nor for refilling your caravan.

The proper tagging would probably be something like:

man_made=water_well
drinking_water=yes

But, those would show up on the hiking map, which is equally wrong.

Taginfo shows use of:

pumping_station=water
 or
man_made=pumping_station

waterway=pumping_station (some of which are sewage pumpouts for boats,
e.g. waterway=sanitary_dump_station).

Re: [Talk-it] Info per mappatura nuove regole di navigazione a Venezia

Ciao

without sail or motor, such as small dinghies, canoes, kayaks, etc..

way canoe=yes/canoe=no.

canoe:conditional=no @ (22:00-06:00)
Per informazioni su conditional:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Conditional_restrictions
e su come scrivere gli orari:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:opening_hours

rendering come:
maperitive
tilemill
umap
Overpass Turbo (vedi sopra)

Hallo,

sehe ich genauso, also explizites Tagging mit bicycle_road=yes. Was

österreichische Fahrradstraßen was Falsches herauskommen würde.

 maxspeed=30
 source:maxspeed=AT:bicycle_road
 bicycle=designated

 bicycle=designated + vehicle=destination + maxspeed=30 implizieren wollen,
 müssen wir das auch auf
 http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Access-Restrictions#Austria
 bzw.
 http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_tags_for_routing/Maxspeed#Austria
 irgendwie vermerken.

That's interesting. Have just tried the app out. It gives you the postboxes
in OpenStreetMap but not the ones that are missing (as shown by blue
markers on Robert's comparison tool:
http://robert.mathmos.net/osm/postboxes/

I really do feel like we are missing a trick here. As the map becomes more
and more complete it becomes harder and harder to find something to map
(example: I spend more time trying to find missing footpaths that I can map
on a circular walk now than 2-3 years ago).

An app that helps people find what's missing whilst out surveying could
really help. I only wish I had the skills and time to do this.

Aun,
mas qual usar?

Pergunto porque não cheguei a conclusão alguma do padrão que estamos
empregando no Brasil.

admin_center delas.
