I can confirm this. I see exactely the same ugly icons in 3.0.9.13.
Rolling back to 3.0.2.8 and the problem is gone. Everything is
displayed correctly. When I open the .png file with an external
program, the icons are also not displayed correctly. Therefore, I

X-Spam-Status) you first create an entry under Preferences; Messages;
Message Headers. However, the new header isn't available without a
restart. Can anyone confirm?

Most likely you have defined to Display this field on the scrollable
part of the header pane. Uncheck that option and you should see it without
the necessity to scroll.
