Re: 5.0.22.24 Filters Remain Broken

2011-09-08 Thread Richard Newman
Hi,

Solved my filter problems . . . so far.

I totally removed TB and all signs thereof including in the registry.
I installed TB 4.2.44 and restored a backup of my data. The problem
persisted.

I removed the four or five filters that weren't working and installed
them again as needed. After 48 hours, the new filters were working
fine.

I moved back to TB 5.0.20.1 and the problem filters are working just
fine. In another 48 hours, I'll move to the latest Beta.

Lesson learned (for me) is to delete the problem filters and redo as
necessary. Now if someone would just tell me the secret to preserving
my dictionary between MSI upgrades, I'd be a much happier camper.

Thanks.

Hello Richard,

I guess I'll do a very full uninstall and reinstall with the latest
v5 release. If that doesn't work, I'll move back to 4.2 until I see filters
 are working.

 Thanks again for your responses.

This version actually seems worse that previous versions. I now get
many unfiltered messages in the Inbox. Manual re-filtering does move
them to the correct folder.

I am slowly migrating my filters to Courier maildrop so I can reliably
get filtered message to my BlackBerry. This also has the advantage
that the filters work even when TB is not running which is rare
because TB runs 24/7.

Server side filtering makes so much more sense for most of the
filtering that I do. The whole point of IMAP is access from more than
one client, so it works much better that way.

I don't currently do very little subtle filtering, where responses are
generated or messages forwarded, etc.

Hello Richard,
If others are having the same problems, then I can put up with the
consistent and inconsistent filter problems for a longer period of time.

Thanks, in advance, for clarifying this.

I get some of the problems intermittently. Most of the problems have
been reported very often over the many v5 Alphas Betas.

 1) Incoming Forward the Message (redirect does work)
Confirmed sometimes.

 2) Copy incoming message to another folder.
Works about 80% of the time. I have a very large number of website stays emails
come though
and only about 80% get MOVED (not copied)

 3) Marking message as read after copying by a filter. . . which can't
fully be tested because Copy message (#2 above) doesn't work.
Again about 80% working.

I've been reporting IMAP connection issues (which I believe is behind
this intermittent behaviour) many times but have just about given up
because nothing much seems to happen.

Hi Max,

No one seems to confirm my posts on broken filters. I would like to know if

If others aren't having the same problems then I suppose that the problems are

Tried that release for about a day on my second machine and didn't see
malfunctions within my filters. One of my filters do copy all incoming
messages to General folder and after they are read they are further
filtered out to subfolders.

Before I was testing v5 on imported v4 database and when back to v4 I
imported v5 TBK but for some reasons duplicated folders appeared in
the structure and the only way to get rid of them was to create new
folder, copy messages, delete duplicated folder, copy back messages
and repoint filters of that folder (ex: re-sellect Move folder) - it's
a way too much time that I don't have to take a risk.

For safety back on v4.2 on my main machine and a bit passively testing
new releases on the notebook only.
