Most icons have these steps but they the steps are much smaller than
in the original file. Therefore, the icons look much smoother.
Maybe that this is a W2K SP4 problem but I've never seen this with
previuos TheBat! versions.

Yep, I tried with Fireworks. Same ugly icons. And FW can definitely
handle alpha-transparency.

I can confirm this. I see exactely the same ugly icons in 3.0.9.13.
Rolling back to 3.0.2.8 and the problem is gone. Everything is
displayed correctly. When I open the .png file with an external
program, the icons are also not displayed correctly. Therefore, I
