I wasn't able to reproduce this behavior.

Exception logs you've mentioned earlier was related to view mode
loading (stored in CONFIG.CDB).
Please make configuration which prevents The Bat from starting,
archive it and post in this list so I can test it.

You're right, it's not really an alpha issue and it didn't change from 5 to
6. I just came across that and thought, since it is just a labeling thing I
could report it anyway. The program's actions and the icons are fine.

m Unfortunately, I still can't get this version to run properly (since alpha
m 4).

I found a way to reproducibly destroy and repair my installation ;-)

The crashes seem to be linked to the creation of new accounts.

1) Start alpha 6 with a new profile (/REG:TEST6-4). Go through the setup
steps and create an account (POP or IMAP doesn't seem to make a
difference). After account creation the main window looks fine.

2) Close the Bat (cross right top corner): nothing happens. Click cross
again TB crashes with the error message shown in the previous mail. TB
freezes afterwards, kill the process with Task Manager.

3)Start same alpha 6 again: TB crashes again with the error message shown in the
previous mail.

4)Replace alpha 6 with alpha 3 (the last one that worked for me) and
restart with same profile (/REG:TEST6-4). TB starts. Press the cross, TB
closes.

5) Replace alpha 3 with alpha 6 and restart with same profile
(/REG:TEST6-4). TB starts. Press the cross, TB closes without problems.

6) Restart alpha 6, TB starts. Create a new account. When done,
close TB, TB crashes as described before.

To repair it, replace alpha 6 again with alpha 3, restart and close TB,
replace alpha 3 with alpha 6 again.

I know it's weird, but it worked every time here. And Alpha 6 keeps working
quite well here as long as I don't create new accounts.

I have been able to find the cause of this behaviour. By default, for
IMAP accounts, The Bat! doesn't load attachments to local base, so
they are stored remotely on the server. The alpha versions have a bug
that doesn't properly display attachments stored on server. As a
temporary workarond, you can configure to download entire messages
(Account Properties | Main Management | IMAP Finetune | Message

Unfortunately, I still can't get this version to run properly (since alpha
4).

What I oberserve (with alpha 6):
The Bat starts exactly once: When creating a completely new profile
(using the switch /REG:a name). It starts, asks for OTFE, which I
disable, asks for the directory to save the Mails, which I point to am
absolute path on my Data-Partition, asks for filetype associations, which I
cancel, asks to create an account, which I do for a GMX-Account (POP3),
I set check for account settings to No and The Bat starts just fine.

Then (for test purposes) I do nothing, just close the program.

This is what is in thebat_exceptions:

Afterwards, the software freezes until at some point Windows kicks in,
states that the program has chrashed and displays some debug info. Via
System Event protocols I found the crash report, which I attached here. The
process is then cancelled via Task Manager.

The Program then doesn't start again. When trying to restart The Bat,
Windows first displays the same error message as described in the report,
then The Bat shows this error:
