I have used, and sold, The Bat! since version 1.1 in 1998. I have
welcomed each new version increase until v5. Admittedly my customers
and I are not IMAP users because it is mandatory for us to remove our
messages from any server that is not totally under our control.

Version 5's interface is cumbersome. It may be OK for new users but
for those of us who have used v4 previous versions 5 is a step
backwards for POP users. Ignoring any bugs, version v5 is a step
backwards for us. Version 5 has lost The Bat!'s slick and quick.

IMO continuing to sell v4 is in Ritlabs best interest.

Since v5 I've very annoying problems with TB:
- Clicking on folders, TB 'spontaneously' compacts folders, deletes older
messages or tells me, there's nothing to compact.
- Clicking on a message to get it in an own window doesn't show that window,
but lays it _under_ the main TB-window.
I've reported this here awhile ago, but didn't get any response. Since then,
I've stopped testing new Alphas.

So, if I knew a better alternative, I would leave TB, but I don't know such
a better alternative.

I don't understand; I use TB! since 1.62 version, an the interface
never changed, even since the 5.x version. Sure, there are more
option, but not in an amount giving troubles for old users

The thing that bothers me most in the current versions is that
selecting messages with keyboard is broken - when I'm going through
the usual morning messages, using Shift+Down TB will often move the
selection start somewhere way above the first message that was
selected.

To be precise: Select a few messages, press Ctrl+M (mark as read),
press Ctrl+] (jump to next unread), press Shift+Down. Instead of
selecting 2 messages, the selection will start where the first
selection started.

This has NEVER happened to me. You must have settings to not keep
messages beyond a certain age active or something

 - Clicking on a message to get it in an own window doesn't show that window,
but lays it _under_ the main TB-window.

While I seldom do this, my window opens on my other monitor.

This is my experience as well. Running only IMAP, I use very little
local filters any more, so I haven't run up with the filtering
problems, and I don't use any virtual folders at present so I can't
speak to those two areas. But version five is pretty trouble free for
me.
