There are times when I would like to open a previously
sent message, make a few changes and send it again,
sometimes to the same person(s), sometimes to others.
In Thunderbird, I'd just pick 'Edit as New' from the
Message menu, but I cannot find a similar option in TB.

I have this folder X which stores all my previous messages and
filtered messages in it's respective folder. The folder X is sort of a
back up folder.
This folder was resting under an account.
I moved the folder out from this account to use it as a common folder.
Now, I want it back

The closest I can see is 'Re-send', which prompted me
about resending (I didn't) without ever offering any
opportunity to edit/adjust.
Try re-direct. That let's you edit the message.
