Hello fellow Bat! fans.

Is this what it is called - you know, the box which pops up when
checking mail?

Anyway, I have noticed that lately, for some reason or other, the
timer on the first window has ceased to operate at most times, and
when it does operate only starts to time from the actual download /
upload of mail.

Previously it timed AFAIR, from the moment the handshake commenced
between modems, or am I wrong here?

Configuring TB's Options File

2001-05-20 Thread Nick Andriash

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Under Account/Properties/Options, I was wondering if there was a
preferable method when configuring the option for Periodical Checking
when you have more than one Account? For instance, I have 3 Accounts that
I check, and I like to check them every 4 minutes. I wonder if that
doesn't create a problem for the Connection Centre if they all occur at
the same time. Speaking of which, if I set it for 4 minutes, will the CC
perform the checks at the same time for all 3 Accounts?

Secondly, under Options/Allow send/fetch without entering the access
password (if any), what specifically are they referring to here, my
password required to authenticate with my POP3 Server? I suppose I could
simply try it and see what happens, but I'm not that adventurous at the
moment. ;o)

Mail Ticker comment

2001-05-20 Thread Shauna Scott

Hello All,

I just turned on my Mail Ticker on this computer and I noticed
something I've never noticed before - though perhaps it's always been
this way, I don't use the Ticker much. When I click on the Ticker, it
opens a window with the title View Folder FolderName of
AccountName, where FolderName and AccountName are the folder and
account for whatever message I happened to click on in the Ticker.
That title remains the same regardless of the actual location of the
message I'm reading. I realize it's only a virtual folder and it
doesn't really matter, but it is a little confusing - I keep
wondering why mail addressed to the PGP list is in my Bat folder and
vice versa. I would have expected the window title to be something
 like View Folder Mail Ticker

CDROM's are supposed to be read only. Therefore the read only bit get set.
the best way (if you remember) to fix it after you have copied the files is
to go into DOS, change directory to the top level for The Bat! and use the
command [arrtib -r *.* /s] this will sort it out for all your files.

I seam to remember that there was a fix for this in one of the beta's.

looking at the logs, it appears I received a new version announcement

If you go into your folder column settings, you'll see the 'folder' item

However, note that the ticker virtual folder uses the column settings for
the view folder window in which the first message displayed by the ticker
virtual folder upon opening, really resides. That sounds confusing so ...

IOW's if you open the ticker virtual folder and it first displays a
message from xxx filtered to folder zzz, it will use the view folder
column settings of folder zzz. Yes, each folder's view folder window can
have it's own column settings. Also, yes, you can setup default column
settings for both the message list viewed in the main window and the view
folder windows. I've configured all my view folder windows to display the
'folder' column. In so doing, anytime the ticker virtual folder opens, I
have a list of messages with a column displaying which folder and which
account each message really resides. The ticker virtual folder works
across accounts (great feature).

There's a lot of info on regexps. Here are some good places to start.

Jeffrey Friedl's book Mastering Regular Expressions (O'Reilly) is very
good.
The XNews manual http://xnews.3dnews.net/manual.html has some
easy-to-digest info on regexps.
If you want something more technical, you could check out the Perl

I had this problem once before, go into internet options (if you are

(Outlook?) hit ok. Now go back into internet options and change the
defaualt client back to The Bat!. Should work after that.

The last version of ZA I used was current around the first of the

As Allie already pointed out, the connection center was designed for
this, and I can say that there is no problem for 8 accounts, which I
check periodically here at the office, at different intervals. It
works flawlessly.

NA Speaking of which, if I set it for 4 minutes, will the CC
NA perform the checks at the same time for all 3 Accounts?

No, the account check times are independant of each other. Sometimes
the conncetion center starts checking one account, and whil it is
still working, another account is added to the task list, as it is its
time. As I said, it works prefectly.

NA Secondly, under Options/Allow send/fetch without entering the access
NA password (if any), what specifically are they referring to here, my
NA password required to authenticate with my POP3 Server?

No, the password you have set to access the account in TB. If you tick
this box and you have set an account password, TB will still send any
mails in the Outbox, and check for mail, even if this account is not
open, i.e. the password not keyed in by the current user. While the
new mails are downloaded, the current user cannot open the account
and thus not read the mails.

Purpose of this functionality: Imagine a family on dial-up. Mom or Dad
will downlaod all emails for all accounts in the morning, i.e. for all
members of the family, but everybody can be sure that M+D don't read
the emails from the boyfriends/girlfriends.

BUG: If the mail ticker is enabled for the password-protected account
and folder, the new mails will show up in the mailticker, and once you
have opnened a mail in the MT, you can navigate in the
password-protected account and read all the mails in the folder. I
guess the security does not go beyond family-level. ;-)

Hmmm? Well, the reason I was asking is because I am experiencing
SecureBat! freezing up on me, and it just started after two things:

1) I opened a 3rd Account with SB!, but I have run TB! with 3 before and
no problems at all.

2) I am utilising the POP3 iKey MD-5 CRAM Authentication feature of the
GMX Servers, so it probably has more to do with that, than it does with
having 3 Accounts checking Mail at the same time.

However, the freeze ups *seem* to occur *only* during access to the
Servers, so I thought it wouldn't hurt asking the question here. I've
already posted a message to SBUDL about this very problem.

Thanks to both you and Allie for your help. :o)
