Index known - how to create?

2002-11-25 Thread Tim Fountain

Apologies for asking a question that I know has been asked before (I
can't find the answer in my archives), but how do I *create* the index
known folder? I deleted it when the feature was first introduced, but
now I'd quite like to get it back.

Also, is it possible to modify the Known filter so that it plays a
sound when a new mail arrives in that box? I know how to do it on
other filters but it doesn't seem obvious on that one.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Create a new folder, call it $KNOWN$ and you're done.

Nope! You can create a new filter that does the same as the
known-filter, but also plays a sound. When you're doing that, you can
disable the known-filter.

The filter way will result in the sound being made for each message

Hi Allie,

Isn't the this the same:
- A sound for each msg filtered into the folder
- A sound for each msg arriving in the folder

As far as I can see the difference is that you might have more then one
filter filtering into this folder.

Only problem here: you cannot enable sound on Inbox-Known.

Works here to play sound only once. *S*

culling e-mail addresses from in-box for group mailing to friends

2002-11-25 Thread sacksa

Hi. I will soon be changing e-mail addresses. Although I will necessarily
handle notification of e-mail lists individually, I would like to be able
to send a group notice to most of my personal correspondents. Since all of
that mail is not filtered and remains in my in-box, is there an efficient
way that I can cull all of the e-mail addresses from the mail in my In-box
without having to individually cut and paste each individual e-mail address
into the bcc field of a new e-mail? [Doing that and then deleting the
ones who will not be receiving the notice would be far easier than copying
individual addresses that I select.]

[I also presume that putting all names in the bcc field and then sending
the message to myself is the easiest way to avoid having everyone on the
list see everyone else's address? Correct?]

I have not used The Bat's address book Would I want to first place these
addresses into the address book and then copy the address book into the
e-mail message?

What is the best way to proceed?

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

The font setting is local to the Bat's editor. So you can have the

The program doesn't support creation of HTML or rich-text although you

You can, but you have to select it, export it, edit it, and reimport
it. Select the message you want to edit, go to Tools, then Export
message. Export it as a .msg file. Open the file in notepad, edit as
you wish, close and save. Then go back to Tools - Import message,
select From .msg/.eml. Find your email again, and import. You can then

Just highlight the text you want to save, right click, and do a Copy
to operation and the highlighted text will go to a file.

Or, do a Save As operation and the whole message will be saved to a
file and you can edit it later.

The FAQ is it - for now. Some people (including myself) are interested
in writing something up which can be distributed carbon-based (i.e. in
the form of dead tress), but we are waiting for the next major
release, so as to not waste our efforts on a version that may become
obsolete soon, or just before, publishing.

New question -- can you edit an message you've downloaded?

Not from within TB (due to a general policy of not allowing alteration
of incoming messages), but, as Jonathan already advised and described,
nothing is impossible. ;-)

Hi. I will soon be changing e-mail addresses. Although I will necessarily

way that I can cull all of the e-mail addresses from the mail in my In-box
without having to individually cut and paste each individual e-mail address
into the bcc field of a new e-mail?

Unless you want to do it manually, I would create a filter to do that.
String: e (this is a catch-all) and under Advanced: address must not
be listed in address book and Actions: add to addressbook.

[Doing that and then deleting the ones who will not be receiving the
notice would be far easier than copying individual addresses that I
 select.]

Depends on the number of addresses.

[I also presume that putting all names in the bcc field and then sending
the message to myself is the easiest way to avoid having everyone on the
list see everyone else's address? Correct?]

Yes.

I have not used The Bat's address book Would I want to first place
these addresses into the address book and then copy the address book
 into the e-mail message?

When you do have addresses in the addressbook, and you notice the mini
addressbook icon in the TO/CC/BCC fileds in the editor when creating a
message, do click on it when you are on the BCC field. You can easily
add addresses; not much effort to add all addresses.

You can then
 delete the original one.

Hmmm ... or I just tried creating a new message and cut/paste the
interesting text into that, then saving it and moving it to the
appropriate folder. I can see by these two methods how to do what I
want, so thank you very much for your help!

Two more questions! (Thanks for your patience!) ...

Is there a zoom function to make a the pane that has the focus take
up the whole window?

And, I see that when I'm navigating through a thread, the highlighting
in the message list pane doesn't move. Should it? I had expected it to
move every time I moved to a new message.

Thanks!

Try this place (see below). It's not a total write-up, but the message
boards address many problems common to newbies and provide a place to
get specific questions answered, sometimes more quickly than on tbudl. :)
Although I have never failed to get useful help from tbudl listers and
moderators. The message boards are just an extra source of help.

You can browse all the messages in each of the forums without being a
member. To post a query, you have to register and be a member. But
that is fairly painless, and it's free. g Hope you find it helpful:

If you are viewing a message in the preview pane, hit Enter, and a new
window will open showing the message in a folder view window in its
full glory. Is that what you mean?

And, I see that when I'm navigating through a thread, the highlighting

No, the focus on the message list in the main window doesn't move when
you move the focus on the message list in a folder view window. This
is on purpose. You can also have several folder view windows open for
the same folder, each with a different focus.

Incoming email to correct Account

2002-11-25 Thread Peter Evans
TBUDL,
I am a new user of The Bat. I have the Version 1.61 Business Edition.

I have two Accounts - BusinessA and BusinessB.

I want email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to go to BusinessA.
I want email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to go to BusinessB.

To do this I went into Account | Sorting Office. For 'Incoming Mail' I set
a 'New rule'.
This was ::-
  strings = To: BuinessA.com
  location = Kludges
  Presence = Yes

Similarly for BuinessB.
However any incoming email goes to BusinessA and is not split between A and
B.

How do I go about directing the incoming email?

Regards, Peter Evans

Try changing the kludges to Recipient. If BusinessB is an alias of
BusinessA, if you look at the headers you should see a line that says
BusinessA even though it was targetted for BusinessB. For example:

`-

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is an alias on another server for
[EMAIL PROTECTED] The final destination ends up in the
headers for delivery, otherwise it won't know what mail account to
drop it into ;)

Create a new group in your address book, let's call it 'moving'
Now create a new filter
Rule tab
 source - Inbox
 target - Inbox
 Condition: '.' present in klugdes
 Manual only
Actions tab
 Add address(es) to address book
 item: sender
 to group: 'moving'
Advanced tab
Addresses must _not_ be listed in Address book
  item: sender
  search only in group: 'moving'

Now re-filter your inbox with manual-only filters

Delete unwanted addresses from the 'moving' group.
After you're done with this, you can delete the whole group. Addresses
listed only in 'moving' will be removed from your address book,
addresses that belong to other groups as well, will be kept. (Only
the marker for the 'moving' group will be deleted.)

Yep.

Just select the group into the bcc-list.

BTW Your signature delimiter doesn't work. Check to make sure it's
dash-dash-space-enter, it looks like a missing space (or a superfluous
one)
