AV DLL File

2003-06-02 Thread Joseph N.
In the course of reconfiguring my AV setup, I noticed that the AV
setup dialog box under Options/Preferences/Protection/Anti-Virus lists
a generic DLL plug-in and reports its status as error. On the next
line is listed my NOD32 BAV, which reports a status of OK.

Why might the generic DLL setup be bad, and what can I do to correct
the situation?

Yes. This problem has been reported. It's not a 'restriction' but instead,

The behaviour is exactly like when ZoneAlarm asks you if you want to
allow a program to access the Internet and you clicked on NO,

It sounds like ZoneAlarm already thinks it knows the program (how
would be an interesting question). Have you checked through all the
program definitions in ZoneAlarm to see if there is an entry that
could be matching? Usually, when you upgrade an app, you get an
'updated program' alert. Perhaps you managed to bugger it somehow
when that came up?

Not had this kind of problem, but am using earlier version of TB!

This seems to be a cat and mouse thing. Those having problems with the
later versions are in turn being advised by those running older versions
without problems to roll back to the older version.

I doubt that this issue is version dependent. It happens unpredictably
and with all versions so far. It's unpredictability is why you've had no
problems with all versions. Usually those without problems never had a
problem. However, those who do have problems don't have it with
particular versions.

Let's see what happens with v4 when it's released.

Yes, I checked ZoneAlarm's program definitions. There was the one
entry from the older version of TB (set to allow of course), which I
removed but still ZA wouldn't prompt me for access, and TB would
stall.

In any case I uninstalled TB 1.62r and rolled back to 1.61 and now
everything's right again. I will keep investigating, but so far it
seems that TB v1.62r has some sort of problem with ZA 2.6.362. Of
course, it could be the other way around, but since TB is the newest
addition to my system, and the previous version does not suffer the
conflict, I am more inclined to think it is something introduced in
the latest version of TB. Perhaps non-standard calls that bypass the
WinSock API or something?

Nothing! TB is a mail reader and not a browser. If the images
weren't sent in the mail, just embedded links to images on a server
somewhere, TB won't show them. It doesn't have the mechanism to go
online and get images not included in the message and instead shows

The problem might be that ZA got confused when you started the new TB.
I have run TB 1.62 and now the beta with two different versions of ZAP
without a problem. But one one as old as yours.

The advice to upgrade ZA is good, but here is something else you can
try. First, make sure that TB is not running. In ZA, go to the
'programs' section and delete the entries for theBat! from the list
there. Now restart TB and when it asks to allow it, say Yes.

:: - From my personal experience, as well as the experience of quite a few
:: other TB! users, when ZA starts being problematic with TB!, this heralds
:: the onset of other problems. I've never heard of a solution to this
:: problem other than switching to another firewall. This isn't difficult
:: since there are a lot of other alternatives. My personal favourite is
:: Kerio Personal Firewall.

I am sorry, but I cannot accept the (now common) solution of
ignoring the problem and trying a different firewall. I rolled back
to the previous version of TB (1.61) and everything works fine again.
And just to be sure, I re-installed v 1.62r, tried again, rolled back
to v1.61, re-tried, (sprinkled with reboots in between, just in case)
and the results were consistent: TB v1.61 works fine with ZA
v2.6.362; ZA detects the network access attempts by TB and prompts me
for permission, to which I accept and mail is transferred back and
forth. Whereas TB v1.62r just stalls when trying to access the
network (while ZA is running), and the tasks cannot be aborted or
deleted. I basically have to kill the task manually (using WinTop).
When ZA is not running TB v1.62r works fine.

I will look into Kerio or another FW, but for different reasons. I do
not think it wise to switch firewalls when the only problem that ZA
has given me so far is with the latest version of TB. TB v1.61 works
for me so I will not be upgrading any time soon until this issue is
properly investigated, identified and, if possible, solved. From
other users' comments I know that I am not the only one who has
experienced problems with TB and ZA.

Thanx anyway for your help.

Outlook incorrectly assumes that all recipients you are in contact

Microsoft's e-mail software recognizes (AFAIK, I have heard that the

There is a tool called Fentun (http://www.fentun.com/) which is free
and which will allow you to open winmail.dat files and extract the

Removing angle-bracket from quote prefix

2003-06-02 Thread DZ-Jay
Hello:

I am trying to customize my TB installation, but I'm confused on
the way that the %QUOTESTYLE macro is used and the help file is not
very helpful in these matters. In particular, I am trying to get rid
of the '' character, which seems to persist. For example, if I set
the macro to:
%QUOTESTYLE=-|
like the help file shows, I instead get the prefix -|. Is this the
desired behaviour or am I missing something? Please take into
consideration that I just migrated from a lifetime (6+ years) of
Eudora to TB! (which btw I consider an upgrade :) and that's just the
way I am used to it. But if this is expected, then I'm fine with it,
I just want to know if I am doing something wrong.

To set my quotes, my Reply template looks something like this:

At %ODateShort %OTimeLong, %OFromName said:
%QUOTESTYLE=::%QUOTES

Is this the proper way of using these macros?

 TIA!
