As long as you're not talking about having this stuff stored on the C-drive,
I don't care. Otherwise it (TB!) gets dumped from the first version that
insists on installing on that drive.

My C-drive is full of mostly unused (if not to say completely

But I guess that's not what you meant, and I really know too little about the

Changing the way The Bat! stores file would solve the problems
mentioned in the thread "Setting up TB! for multiple users?"
. Global address books and
other shared files could be stored in the "All Users" directory.
Network settings would need to be stored in The Bat!'s directory so
that they could only be changed by users with permissions (normally
only administrators).

Also, these changes will help users of Windows 2000 and Windows XP and
will NOT break The Bat! on older operating systems. There are user
profiles and an "All Users" directory" on both Windows 98 and Me (and
perhaps even 95).

Inconsistent use of sort indicators?

2003-11-27 Thread George Mitchell
Hi all,

Someone on another list I read pointed out that The Bat! uses the sort
indicator graphic on the message list column headers in an
inconsistent way.

For a date sort, the triangle is oriented point up for an ascending
sort. For an alphanumeric or numeric sort, the triangle is oriented
point down for an ascending sort. Most other apps appear to use point
up for ascending sorts of any kind.

The person who posted this info was using TB! v1.54 Beta/40, so I
guess it's been that way for a while.

This seems like a bug to me. Opinions?

Glyph Management

2003-11-27 Thread Chris

In Peter Ouwehand's message in the thread "Feature Request"
, he talks about some of
the problems with the current glyph system. I agree with him. However,
I think that the glyph system should be overhauled. Instead of simply
use a "glyphs.bmp" file, I think that the glyph set should be broken
into many different files. That way, if a new glyph is added before
the glyph set can be updated, The Bat! can use its default glyph. To
allow people to experiment with different glyph sets easily, there
should be an option to switch between glyph sets (without restarting).
This also allows two users on the same computer to have different
glyph sets.

Also, glyph sets stored in The Bat!'s directory should be available to
all users, while glyph sets stored in the user's personal directory
(%userprofile%\Application Data\The Bat!\glyphs\...) should be
available to only that user.

TF> Or does it?

My opinion: what problem?

TB! programming / functionality should not be limited by some glyphs
grid size. Adjust it, give it some version number, whatever to identify
it. Then the TB version using the extended glyphs can test the
glyphs-version and either accept or reject it. An older version should
not accept anything beyond 'what's defined for it' anyways (called 'good
programming', in other words: don't accept anything the program doesn't
don't know of), so there should be no problem there.

Version numbering / identification for _whatever_: the key to prevent
problems. Implementing the available information correctly is the next
key (accept / reject).

I think a red '@' is less intrusive (just informative) than a whole
'line' being marked. Also, marking a whole line may be confusing now the
new folder-color-groups seem to withstand beta tests.

Maybe the programmers find some way to accomplish this.

Sure, as in 'back to normal' being either 'no new/unread mail' (black)
or 'unread mail' (blue), hence the actual state at that moment.

Colors are a great way to draw attention to screen objects. Far more effective
than most other factors, and this has been scientifically proven. One problem
I can see with this scenario is that the user might have to scroll up/down the
account tree if they are all expanded, and the offending account might not be
immediately visible. I just woke up, though, and my woolly brain fails to
suggest a better alternative than below for now :)

Apart from this. The log panel at the bottom of the screen has always seemed
to be lacking one essential detail to me - the account *name*. I am aware of
what it picks out from the log files to display, but it wouldn't be too
difficult to tack on an account name to that error. As it stands, I find it
not of much use simply because I have so many accounts. Seeing simply "5
messages received" or "error, blah blah" does not help me. In a single account
scenario it would be great. If the last one checked also happened to have an
error, the log panel could provide a partial solution to Simon's problem.
Partial because it won't work if multiple accounts conked out.

Or we could have a little error panel button in there somewhere...ahhh..I need

And that still is not possible. A workaround could be a template

that sets the cursor to line no. n (here $max_line_length - 60),
what causes The Bat! to wrap at the regular limit but leaves some
empty space at the left site. This rectangle space can be marked via

Perhaps my message was misleading. It's while I'm typing that I want a "right
margin" (and that may be misleading too) at position 60.

I guess I shouldn't have mentioned the %WRAPPED macro...

Thanks for tying to help however (This goes for Miguel as well)!

I've the same problem too. Something like this proposal

This is one of the QTs involved in my multiple paragraph re-wrapping
template, and it does specify a wrap limit:

%_Wrap_Text="%Quotes"%-
%Rem="This line is optional"%___%_Wrap_Limit="70"%-
%QInclude(wrap)%-

I don't think there are any template macros with which you can change
the line length.

individual template - wrapped at different position

2003-11-27 Thread Mark Partous

Hello Bats,

I'm trying to make TB! wrap at 60th position for messages to a Yahoo-user,
and would like to put this instruction into an AB-template for this person.

Did not find anything else but the %wrapped macro though...

Any ideas?

The most common reason for that is having multiple entries in your
AB(s) for the same address.
