3.5: View | Edit Shortcuts ?

Hello TB User Discussion List,

Some of my shortcuts are missing since installing 3.5.
The help file states that shortcuts are accessible with
View | Edit Shortcuts.

I cannot find this. Where is it hidden?

Well, I tried to install The Bat! again when the final version came
out. What happened again was that the installation process stops and
I what pops up on the screen is the enclosed files

It appears that there are a number of us having problems with this
installer. There are a number of threads on TBBETA about this issue at
the moment - but no consensus about why it's happening or how to
resolve it.

3.5: Watch Reples In ?

2005-05-15 Thread Bill McCarthy
Hello TB User Discussion List,

This feature appears to be not working in 3.5.

I had a watched folder. However, when I attempted to
watch a message, the only choice I had was to create a
new folder. I played along and added a new folder with
the same name as the old folder - that gave me two :-)

I deleted both of these chat folders and started
over. That sort of worked - a folder was created under
the folder from which I was reading. I moved it to be
with my other virtual folders - I couldn't remove the
watched email.

I deleted that folder and created a new chat folder.
Watch Replies In can't find it :-(

Is this feature working for anyone? If so, what's the
trick?

TB 3.5 - Bug with view by thread

Now, with TB 3.5, my messages are not automaticaly threaded anymore : when i

Is it a way to fix that ?

bug report WAS: 3.5 bug in sorting office?

2005-05-15 Thread djb

Does anyone happen to know if the inbuilt bug-reporting email set-up
actually works? (HELPFeedbackBug Report) Or does one have to go
through the web-site?

I just filed this bug using the email set-up but didn't get an
auto-reply as I was expecting.

BUG REPORT:

When viewing filters in the sorting office with the focus on the
FOLDERS tab (POP account in read or replied messages, or anywhere in
IMAP account), folder selections 'stick' between filters.

If I have TRASH ticked in one filter, then switch to a filter
immediately above or below which has just the INBOX checked, the TRASH
remains checked also. Unchecking the TRASH folder but keeping the
INBOX checked, if I move back to the first filter the TRASH is checked
but the INBOX remains checked also!! This is IMAP account.

Same behaviour in POP account. Clicking down a list of filters in
'Read Messages', the first 4 had the Inbox checked, the last one had
Inbox, Keep folder (my own), and the Sent messages folder checked.
Clicking through them the problem reoccurred, then closing the
Sorting Office and re-opening it the first 4 folders had the Inbox
and Keep checked. Closing it and opening it again the first 4 had
the Inbox checked only. Closing it and opening it yet again all
filters had Inbox, Keep, and Sent Messages checked.

I can't work out whether these are the settings being changed or if
it is just a GUI problem.

You can do this via View | Toolbars | Customise. HTH.

No reference to shortcuts I can see in there.

Two things the developers need to look at now:

1. Move all the editing functions to and editing dialog - makes far
more sense than View.

2. Change the documentation to match the change please (I know it is
difficult keeping the documentation up to date on a forwever changing
landscape but...)

Meanwhile how do we edit shortcuts!!

Hello AJ,

Is it possible to make the icons smaller, or alternatively replace them
 with another (smaller..) set.

you can change the size, by changing the following lines in the
Batskin.xml:

sizes
size id=MenuIcons width=16 height=16 /
size id=ToolbarIcons width=32 height=32 /
size id=Buttons width=32 height=32 /
size id=WorkIcons width=16 height=16 /
size id=ListIcons width=24 height=16 /
size id=Folders width=16 height=16 /
size id=Controls width=16 height=16 /
size id=AddrBook width=20 height=20 /
size id=BigIcons width=32 height=32 /
/sizes

e.g. size id=ToolbarIcons width=22 height=22 /

If you need the Batskin.xml you can download it here, and put it into
the working directory (same place as thebat.exe):

RitLabs has contracted with a professional writing firm to write a
completely revised Help File. One of these writers posted recently to
TBBETA that it's almost finished--is at the proofreading stage.

Meanwhile, there are some things still useful about the old Help File,
so it's good to have it, but it should not be taken as gospel. With
v. 3.5, sections are obsolete, and additionally many places in the
Help Topics Index give a good description of a feature but not a clue
on how to access or implement it. :unreal2:

(BTW, the above Smiley is from the PCWize collection. :) )

TBUDL, TBTECH, and TBBETA are TB!'s documentation. ;) Keep on

Small icons again... Solved!

2005-05-15 Thread AJ Blisten
Hi all,

I did as Miroslav suggested and the icons became smaller, but they're still
big when I start The Bat! from the desktop icon. The icons are small when I
start The Bat! from quick bar shortcut AND the short cut under Start |
Programs | ... It doesn't help if I replace the desk top icon with the one
in quick launch bar or under Start | Programs | ... Whatever I do they're
still big...

Why is that...? Strange behaviour, if you ask me...

Ok, forget it! I created a NEW shortcut (from thebat.exe in the
directory...) and they all show snmall icons now!

Re[5]: Threading

2005-05-15 Thread Stefan Tanurkov
Hello Steve,

SL The way we did it in VA (sorry to keep bringing that up) was to always
SL have the threads opened by default

This can be done by change message list column settings.

SL Unlike in The Bat! and Outlook, the messages in VA never changed
SL status from unread to read in x seconds while reading. Instead,
SL hitting the return key to move to the next message marked it as
SL unread.

Thank you for pointing to this. We already have a possibility to read
messages using the Space key. I've added two more options to space bar
reading today: to move to the next unread message (requested before)
and to mark message as read when taking off the current message. Also,
a new action SmartSpace reading is added, so it's possible to add
the action to the local menu of message list, preview and/or folder
tree and define another hot-key (like Enter).

Hello AJ,

Why is that...? Strange behaviour, if you ask me...

I assume you have a further 'Batskin.XML' file on the desktop?
If not, examine the shortcut. If in the TheBat! shortcut the entry is
missing in the field: Execute in: , TheBat! is looking on the desktop
for an existing 'Batskin.XML'. If no file is present on the desktop, the
internal 'Batskin.XML' is loaded. That's why it works with shortcut from
the working directory, here the path is registered.

Fully concur!

I noticed Steve's top posting right away and was happy to see Roelof
point out the list rules to him. (Wish I could share with him the PM
exchange I had with Marck, who sent me the same Moderator's reprimand,
when I first posted to TBUDL in October, 2002.)

I came to see how much more enjoyable trimmed quoting and posting
below the relevant quote really is.

NB, to Steve: This elucidation of list rules should have been
available to you in your Welcome message. And, I didn't say anything
at the time I replied to you, because I knew that one of the Mods
would soon communicate with you about it.

I think it's not just a few on this list who like this way better. I
think there'd be a great outcry if Top Posting and Untrimmed Quotes
were allowed.

Those new to the list--including myself when I was a newcomer--don't
always understand at first. Most of them do come to understand.

And, Those Are the Rules, so members try to abide by them. :rulez:

I added 'move to next unread' to the 'Message' menu of the main window.
I then assigned it a shortcut.

Unfortunately, this shortcut works when the editor is in focus. I
assigned the shortcut as N, and now in the editor, I can't type 'n'
when editing.

Same here as Mary. context menus appear very stable.

Not to my knowledge. I'm running XP Home SP2, v. 3.5.

Again, same here as Mary except that I'm running XP Pro here.

Hi,

I already have too much folders, i prefer my method... i prefer to group those
mails into only one folder, easy to archive every month and easy to backup. i
do not see the interest to use a VF when i do not need them... its enough
annoying that TB does not allow to create multiple POP3 into only one account,
i do not want to add more folders :)

 Hello Stephane,

I have a rule that move automaticaly every mail i send from the sended box
 to the Inbox
folder, so i directly can see my own messages threaded with mail to whish i
 have reply.

There is a better solution for that. Create a VF (Virtual Folder) with a
threaded view mode and filter for 'any message' in Inbox and Sent Mail
 folders.

Why did you add it to the Message menu? Wouldn't it be better to just
add the shortcut N to 'move to next unread' in message list context
menu? That is what I have done with 'Enter', which is my preferred
shortcut to move to next unread.

Not very slowly, but they're definitely not as quick as they have been

Is this a Windows XP thing or a hidden setting in in V3.5?

I'm running W2k so it's obviously not a XP thingie

It will work only when the message list is in focus. I prefer if it
works from any of the panes as CTRL-] does.

It is clear that each user has his preferences, so nothing to argue :)

BTW, CTRL-] doesn't work here from any pane. But it is because it is an
impossible key combination on a Spanish keyboard ;-)

Yes. :)

This is my habit and what I'd consider smooth operations.

I'm going through messages in the message list. I go to next unread with
N and scroll with spacebar.

I wish to reply to a message quoting selected text. I move to the mouse
though I'd love a single key toggle to bring the preview pane into focus
so that I could select the text with the keyboard.

I select the text and then hit R for the reply to appear.

I type my message then hit CTRL-M to send immediately.

I'm now back to the main Window.

I'd now love to be able to continue reading with N, but I left the main
window with the preview pane in focus. I now have to get the message
list back into focus. I have to reach for the mouse just to do that
since tabbing doesn't work too well and often takes longer than just
using the mouse.

In Mulberry, it's all a snap.

1,2,3 moves me between panes.

tab takes me to unread messages whether the message list or preview pane
is in focus.

I don't have to reach for the mouse during browsing.

3.5: View | Toolbars | Customization Bug and Missing Items

2005-05-15 Thread Bill McCarthy
Hello TB User Discussion List,

This feature appears to have been added at the last
minute without any significant testing.

Using this feature more than once in a session usually
results in an empty white box after View | Toolbars -
cannot even get to customization.

Many items are missing. Even the ability to add a
shortcut to View | Toolbars | Customize :( Sure, I can
do an Alt-VTC - unless the little white box stops
access.

I was able to get most of my shortcuts implemented -
none ported from my previous implementation (the last
real beta before Ritlabs went Alpha in the Beta testing
group). The problem was always missing items in the
new tool.
