When I upgraded from v2 to v6 I just installed v6 over the v2 install.
That worked mostly fine, except that I lost all my filters. I think v3
introduced a new filtering system so you should probably upgrade to v3
first and from that to v7. I don't remember any problems with

Gmail-way is the manner in which Gmail threads emails (as

The thread with the latest reply will rank as the top thread,
irregardless of the creation date of the thread starter email.

Have you tried new thread sorting (might be not so new anymore in

I've created a custom header field X-Text-Classification in TB and have
the filter in TB look if that very header contains the word spam. This
works reliably ever since I started using K9 (I switched to K9 from
PopFile, which uses the same X-Text-Classification header).

I'm not too familiar with the v3 filtering system but I think that
would only catch mails with the header in the right place not in the
body.

For the second there is no workaround cause to some messages K9 doesn't
 add the header at all.

Odd. I've never had that problem. The only thing I've noticed is that K9
seems to stumble over newer headers like the very lengthy domainkeys - it
did not affect my spam filtering however; the messages are just incorrectly
displayed in K9's list of recent messages.

I have no problems with the gui. But I had two occurences of bug 2
yesterday and one of bug 1 today. So I experience them on two computers
with two different OS and after having installed K9 freshly on this
laptop and with fresh training. The funny thing is when I look at the
source of these messages I can't find anything special about them.

Could anyone using multiple POP3 accounts with The Bat, tell me what

I have two accounts but have settled to only using spam filtering on
the other one. This account doesn't get any spam at all. I don't trust
blacklists, so it's bayesian filtering for me. I just whish there was
any implementation that really works satisfactory.

Bayesit - only some versions work at all and after a while they quit
to - and tb! with them.

Bayesfilter - crashed during training

Spampal with bayesian plugin - works for a while then crashes

Popfle - Uses too much cpu even when idle and when it doesn't get
enough bandwidth during mail check it crashes causing the mailbox to
lock

Spambayes - crashed during training

Spamhilator - doesn't really filter much at all

K9 - This would be ideal: Small, light on resources, doesn't crash.
Unfortunately it is buggy and to make things worse it seems to be
unmaintained. The developer has disappeared (at least that was the case
last time I checked). Two of the really really bad bugs affect tagging
of messages found to be spam: One is adding the header to the body
area of a message, the workaround beeing to have tb! search the whole
message and not just the header area, slowing the filtering process
down. For the second there is no workaround cause to some messages K9

So what I'm I using? K9. At least it doesn't crash and it's certainly
better than nothing. I just filter on the whole message source and
live with those messages it doesn't tag in addition to those it
doesn't catch. But can I recommend it? Not really. Not without a but
certainly.

I'm not sure what exactly you want. If you want mails you have replied

How do I mark mails that I want to watch to be replied.

You can flag them or assign them a colour group and filter on that
together with fast search not replied. That way they disappear from
the virtual folder as soon as you reply to them.

  If I right click the

Create a chat folder first. Then you can mark mails to be watched in
that folder. All replies to that mail should appear there. I've found
this not to be completely reliable but try for yourself.

How may I use the filtering capacity under the

These filters become active when you have replied to a message. You
could have them moved to a different folder when you have replied to

OK, got that. Thanks. But how do I get the global views not to be

Not.

Errr.. in other words, sometimes I am looking a folder that is
normally using my Thread by Ref Global view and I want to view threads
by subject *temporarily*. If I invoke threading by subject using
Alt+2 (same as View|View Threads By.. Subject) then that affects *all*
 my folders. Why is that?

You change the view mode. This change affects all folders using that
view mode or in the case of a global view mode all folders.

I guess a better question would be what is the difference between the
View|View Threads By... option and the View|Global View... options?

The first lets you change the view mode you are currently using by
changing the threading model. The second lets you switch to a
different global view mode or none at all.

How do I quickly change the view/threading of one folder without
 affecting other folders?

In the folder properties choose folder specific settings. The more
practial approach would be to just reverse your change to the view
mode after you are finished, though.

Thanks for you help. I know (or knew...) how to do this

Hope that helps.

My virus scanner also checks TB's messagebase format (I'm using GData AVK,

AW Same as you as my headers show.

MB I went to Specials/View Source (F9), and I could not see the mailer in
MB the list.

It's there though. You don't need to look in the source. Tick
View-Message Header-Mailer. You will see it in the header pane then
 whenever someone includes that header.

MB I did that before asking you. Have you considered including
MB the macro for showing that in your tbudl sig?

Someone might complain I'm wasting bandwith :p

MB Do you have this line in your .msl:

MB Smiley = .\Default\happy.gif, 0, happy, happy

Smiley = .\Default\happy.gif, 0, ^^, happy

MB Or this one:

MB Smiley = .\Default\headshot.gif, 0, headshot! headshot headshot HEADSHOT!,
headshot

Smiley = .\Default\headshot.gif, 0, headshot! headshot HEADSHOT HEADSHOT!,
headshot

MB Or this one:

MB Smiley = .\Default\knifed.gif, 0, :knifed:, knifed

Smiley = .\Default\knifed.gif, 0, :knifed:, knifed

MB The :knifed: handle will call that ugly image.

Yes, but knifed won't.

MB But headshot! headshot headshot HEADSHOT!

MB will all call the headshot image.

Yes. They're all between the one pair of quotationmarks.

AW happy

AW Do you see a smilie for the line above or the plain word?

MB I see a smiley.

MB That's because this line is in my .msl file:

MB Smiley = .\Default\happy.gif, 0, happy, happy

The one before the last one should not be happy but ^^.

MB So when someone types happy with no punctuation up against it, I see a
MB smiley.

MB And the .msl line that calls it is in the file that I downloaded with
MB The Bat! v. 2.12.00.

I don't understand that. I must have downloaded a different 2.12.00 :/

No. Spammers don't know how you legitimate mail looks like. The words
they include probably never occured in your legitimate mail or at least
where no markers for it. They will most likely have neutral spam
probabilities. But there will still be words which mark the mail as
spam. Bayesit can use that to recognize it. Even if by chance they
include a word that has a very low spam properbility it will most likely
not be enough for the spam to come through as legitimate mail. Those words
may even become markers for spam because they appear only in those spams
but not in your legitimate mails.

C2 Any training suggestions for BayesIt?

If bayesit misses a spam tell it. Over here it recognizes those mails
just fine.

really in there but you can manipulate them as if they were.

DH The question is, how are the messages to be included selected?

Two ways. Using the search tool you can save a search as a vf. Or you
can create vf and then define a filter for it.

DH In
DH spite of what some TB! users (including a moderator friend) declare,
DH there is no way to filter them accurately, IMO. I'd have to do it
DH message by message, because: 1).- I have no way of anticipating the
DH content or nature of some of the mail I am sent and therefore; 2).-
DH My decisions are made on the fly, depending on what I find.

DH Since I depend heavily on the Message Dispatcher, I'd prefer to
DH select any mail I want put in the virtual window from there (just as
DH I'd like to be able to flag and / or color mail from within the
DH Message Dispatcher).

You can create virtual folders that look for flagged messages or parked
ones or those that belong to a certain colour group. The moment you mark
them they will appear in the vf.

The only thing I use virtual folders for is mails I want to reply to. I
just flag them when I think I want to do that.

Kinda. You can create a folder and then right click a message and use

The Anti spam plugins don't care which protocol is used, they just get

It's not that I ignore sigs completely. But will not spend all parts of

course. But I meant something different: when mentioning someone or
someone' mail I don't look at the mail itself. I may only look at the

Create Chat folder. Now you can select a message and choose watch by and

How many mails have you marked as junk and not junk? Try a few hundred
of each. You can try lowering the sett9ing for move to junk in
preferences but usually bayesit will give a score of 0 or 99/100 so this
setting doesn't much matter. In the beginning of the training phase it
