Re: Dictionaries and Spell Checker
Hallo subscriber2list (whatever your name is?), Oh, but in that case I must surely be able to manually copy all the words in my own .dic file into UserDic? My .dic file contains thousands of words that I've added to it over the years, and then I wouldn't have to add each word again to TB UserDic every time it comes up. Am I right? Looks like this should work. Have you try it yet? Perhaps, use a reduced subset of your currently defined .dic file. I haven't tried it yet, because nobody has been able to tell me what the letter 'i' after each added word in UserDic means, and whether UserDic can contain words from different languages, or if I should create one UserDic for each language. I would like to know that first, before I start experimenting. -- Best regards, Britt Henrikson Using TB! 2.10.03 on Win2000 Current version is 2.11.02 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: The buttons 'previous' and 'next'
Hello Allie and Roelof, Oh. This is likely the root of your problem. You're assuming all the folders are the same. I'm not *assuming*, all my folders ARE the same. BH What exactly do you mean by 'settings'? Thread by references, sort on created date, that kind of things, not to forget purging settings. OK. Yes, all my folders have the same settings. Each folder can be configured to sort message lists differently, depending on the folder view mode you configure the folder to use. Which I didn't learn how to do until yesterday. That was one of my questions, in the message with the subject View mode. As I haven't tried it out yet, my folders are still the same. So I guess my original question remains unanswered. -- Best regards, Britt Henrikson Using TB! 2.10.03 on Win2000 Current version is 2.11.02 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hallo Mic, Mic to Roelof: the bottom line is that it's a really bizarre behaviour for an email client to have. Thank you for your support. Re: Dictionaries and Spell Checker
Hi Roelof, You can select the language? Yes. How do you see that it doesn't work? Won't it be/stay selected or don't you agree with the solutions? If AmE is chosen, every single word in the mail is underlined with red. As soon as I choose BrE instead, the lines disappear. Very strange indeed. BTW, what about these two questions? Outgoing attachments are also saved in Attach folder?!
Hello again list, when I joined TBUDL in May, I got help with my two most urgent issues with TB. Here are some more questions - and since I realized that it's better with one issue per mail, I will send several mails. Here goes... I save the attachments I receive in a separate Attach folder (to save them in the msg body is not an option for me). But all the attachments that I myself send are also saved in that folder?! I don't want them there, I have them elsewhere on my PC, and I don't see why TB should save them on the hard disk at all. Dictionaries and Spell Checker
I write mails in several languages and have activated my own dictionaries (.dic files), but I haven't really grasped how it works: TB seems to be able to spell check also those languages with its own UserDic. So which dictionary should I add new words to - different depending on language, or all to UserDic and remove my own dics? When I add words to UserDic the red underlining disappears, when I add them to my own dics it stays. Why is UserDic divided in so many .tlx files?? Each one contains only a few hundred words, and the file UserDic.TLX itself contains only the word I've added to it. Would it be better to make them all into one big file? What does the letter 'i' after each added word in UserDic.TLX mean? What do the .clx files contain and can they be opened and edited? Re: The buttons 'previous' and 'next'
Hallo Roelof, BH In some folders the next msg (newer, I have them sorted by date) is BH opened with the 'next' button, in others with 'previous'. Depends on the message you've selected, I'd guess. No. What I was trying to say was that in certain folders, I *always* have to use the button 'next' to go from older to newer mails, in other folders I *always* have to use the button 'previous'. TB remembers the message you were viewing the last time you were in that folder. When that message doesn't exist anymore when you enter that folder again TB has to focus on a new message. Depending on your folder settings that could give you different results. I'm not sure I can follow you here, but I'll try different ways and pay attention to exactly what it is I'm doing. In my experience TB behaves the same in folders with identical settings. What exactly do you mean by 'settings'? Column settings? Re: Outgoing attachments are also saved in Attach folder?! - thanks!
Hi again Roelof, Suppose you're collecting stamps and you've got a list with stamps you're looking for. You send that list to a friend, meanwhile you add stamps to your collection and delete them from your list. Some time later you'd like to check how many changes you've made to the list you sent in order to decide whether you should post a new one. The only way this is possible is by having a copy somewhere. That's exactly my point: I have a copy of it *myself*, TB doesn't have to create one for me. Therefore just as TB saves the messages it sent, it also saves the attachments it sent. Anything else wouldn't be acceptable. Well, it *is* acceptable in other mail clients. TB is the only one I've tried that does this. However there is a work around. Thanks very much for your long and detailed explanation! I'll try the method out when I have more time. Until then, I'll just continue to open the Attach folder and manually delete my own attachments. At least I know now that there isn't anywhere I can just easily turn this function off. -- Best regards, Britt Henrikson Using TB! 2.10.03 on Win2000 Current version is 2.11.02 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Read mails are still marked as unread - thanks!
Hello Charles, Stuart and Marck, The message should be flagged read after the expiry time of two seconds (this is the default and is configurable). So if you're moving to another message before those two seconds it won't get flagged. Thanks to all three of you for your answers! I had no idea that two seconds were such a short time, I was sure that every mail I opened was opened for more than two seconds. Now I've tested and had the mails open a second longer, and yes, now all the messages were marked as read. If you are reading a thread, then the message above in the thread does not get marked as read until you have completed reading the thread. Re: Dictionaries and Spell Checker - thanks!
Hi Roelof, thank you so much for your great help! TB has its own library set, you don't need to create another one. OK. Every language you installed has two files, an ssceXX.tlx and an ssceXX2.clx file, where XX stands for the language 'am' for American English, 'du' for Dutch (that's an important one for me), 'go' for German old spelling, etc Aha, very useful information! BH So which dictionary should I add new words to To userdic, OK. you don't need to insert them manually, but via the spell checker interface. Hallo Andre, Have you tried pasting with Shift+Ctrl+Ins or Edit-Paste formated? Are we talking about the same thing here? I'm not *pasting* any text, I'm *inserting* text: writing new sentences in the middle of the text I've already written before. Anyway, I've solved it this way: I always have Autoformat automatically on, and then inserting and word wrap work without any problems, and when I want to write only one or a few words on every line, I uncheck Autoformat *only in that mail* and arrange those lines as the last thing I do. Re: New line problems
Hi Robin, Autowrap and Autoformat are not the same thing. You can keep Autowrap on and have Autoformat turned off, then use the format block option (Alt+L for format left) to reformat the paragraph if you need to. I know that the two features are not the same thing, but wordwrap only works the way I want it to if Autoformat is turned on. If Autowrap is checked and not Autoformat and I insert text afterwards, the lines keep going on to the right. If I insert a lot, they eventually jump down, if I only insert a little, they stay long and I have to reformat the paragraph, just like you say. But I don't want to reformat anything afterwards, I want both functions to work from the beginning and at the same time: new lines by pressing Enter and automatic wordwrap when text is inserted. The two features just don't seem to work at the same time. -- Britt Henrikson Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Mail download + new line problems
Thanks to everybody who answered my mail yesterday and welcomed me to the list. Unfortunately, nobody seems to have any solution to my major problem: that The Bat is busy working with something for ca 15 minutes every morning before it downloads my mails. As I said, I've unchecked the virus and spam check functions and none of my other e-mail clients have ever behaved this strange way, so I'm completely at a loss. Of course I have a firewall and a virus program but why would they only interfere with the Bat and not with the other mail programs? I forgot to mention that the Bat is only checking one single e-mail account, not many at the same time. It's impossible to start a new line by pressing Enter. Yes, that's the way I do it. ;-) Options - Preferences - Editor prefrences - uncheck 'Autoformat' I used to have Autoformat unchecked at the beginning, but when I had written an e-mail and afterwards added something in it, the line kept going on to the right for the whole paragraph, till I pressed Enter. This made me desperate, and I was so happy when I found the Autoformat function which stopped this. Does this mean I have to choose between either no word-wrapping or being able to press Enter for a new line (or toggle between them) - isn't it possible to have both at the same time? I find the Bat great in many ways, but 15 minutes expensive online time to download a few mails is in the long run intolerable, I'm afraid. :-( -- Best regards, Britt Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Mail download + new line problems
Hallo everybody, I'm new on this list and new to The Bat. Is it allowed to ask several questions in one mail, or should it be only one question per mail? I take a chance and start out with the two most urgent ones. The Bat 2.10.03 on Win2K, stand alone 1. When I want to download mails from the server, 4 or 8 mails are downloaded without any problem. Then the hard disk starts to work and goes on working for ca 15 minutes. During this time, the progress bar hangs and doesn't show any progress. After that The Bat claims that the download is finished. However, only the 4 or 8 first mails are downloaded. To download the rest of the mails from the server, I have to click on get mails once again - and this time I get the rest in seconds, no matter if it is only a couple, or 50, or 100. After some days, it occurred to me that of course the program was checking for viruses, so I deactivated all the options for virus checking. No change. Then I thought it must be checking for spam, so I deactivated all these options, too, and deleted the Bayes plugin. But the only thing that happened was that The Bat now doesn't do this every time I check my mail, only in the morning when I start up my computer. The funny thing is that it is always exactly 4 or 8 mails that I receive before the hard disk starts to work, and it always takes around 15 minutes. I only have a modem and it drives me _crazy_. No other mail program does this. If I try to cancel the download, I get a warning that the mails may be marked a read and thus not downloaded the next time. What on earth it is The Bat does and how do I make this stop??? 2. It's impossible to start a new line by pressing Enter. As soon as I start writing on the new line, that word pops up to the line above. I want it to look like this: Name Address Phone Mail ...but in order to show you this, I have to write this mail in another mail program. With The Bat, it would look like this: Name Address Phone Mail Sometimes I get it to work with two lines, but never with three or more. The program seems to ignore the Enter button function new line. How do I fix this? Extremely grateful for your help. Kind regards, Britt P.S. I only found this English list.
