Not so. You do not need the sender's key to read an encrypted e-mail,
because it will be encrypted to the recipient public key. The
recipient only needs his own private key.

As I posted before in the TBOT list, I find that it tends to work
less, because spammers are learning to disguise the words. How does
software identify words like pen1s, viag/ra and its unlimited
variations, that all readers identify?

I did. I uninstalled, downloaded the full AVG anew, I deleted the grisoft
folder with the remaining files and reinstalled the new full
6.0.518 version (free). But nothing changed. The Control Center is
not fully functional, and when I click on Activate a window appears
saying that the installation is "damaged (modified)", and I have to
OK it to close. But the program seems to be working, because it
detected the eicar test string.

When I start the computer and AVG is loaded, the same message
(damaged) appears, and I have to click OK, which is a drag.

Now I suspect that the program is not *damaged*, but that it
is *modified*, and this is the normal behavior of the new version.
Any idea about that? If this is really the case, is it a trick
from Grisoft to push you into purchasing a paid version? Has their
sense of how to conduct business been *damaged* ?.

I hope not.

Any information about this is welcome. An AV is a too
important piece of soft to juggle with damaged programs.

Hi batters!,

Although this is rather OT, I am sure it will interest many TB
  users.

I have been using free AVG V6.0.515 for months. Excellent.
But now I tried to update to V518 released last Sept 11, following Grisoft advise.
  http://www.grisoft.com
I downloaded file d60330x3.bin to folder UPDATE and restarted AVG.
The program updated itself, but the Control Center is inactive,
and the icon does not appear in the system tray any longer. If I
try to activate it, an error window opens informing that the
program has been modified and it is damaged. It still checks virus,
but without the Control Center the virus list cannot be updated.

I informed Grisoft and asked for help since this seems to be a
bug, although the free version is not entitled to technical
  support. Waiting for reply.

What is now the best course of action? Reinstall the
former version? Uninstall-install? Delete files? Wait and see?
Any advice? Mine is be more cautious than me for updates.

  TIA

Missing folders

2002-09-08 Thread Joan Josep

Hi Batters!,

I have been trying to upgrade my computer system, and I have found
that carrying on the Bat is rather complicated, at least for me.

I followed the procedure described in the FAQ page, but probably did
some mistake. First I upgraded from win98 to win2k in a 2G disk,
reformatting the HD. I succeeded. But then I bought a new computer
with a 20G disk, and the installation in this machine has not been
fully successful.

I have 3 accounts. The 2 secondary accounts whose mail files are
located in subdirectories with more than 700 messages have been
transferred OK. This includes the present account with the Bat
folder.

But I have been unable to transfer correctly the main account. The
new install has only the 5 basic folders( In, out, in known, sent
and trash), but the other created folders with their messages have
disappeared.

Is there a simple method to recover the folders and messages in this
folder, or should I better start it all over.

Searching former postings I realize that it may be tricky. Any
advise would be appreciated.

Another filter not working

I have defined several filters that distribute the incoming mail
to different boxes. They work fine. So far so good.

Now I define another similar filter, intended to transfer messages
from the Outbox to the analogous box in another account, from
where they will be sent. The rule is "@ is anywhere". This is the
only filter in the Outgoing mail. I write a new message, a reply
for instance, and store with the second icon from left. But
messages remain in the working account and are not moved to the
new account. What is wrong here? Any help?. TIA

Today's solution: When you first open the bottle add a piece of
wood, cork, porexpan, etc. When the floater lands, start a new
bottle. The solution fails if the ink is invisible and weightless.

Let me insist. When I receive Jason's mail, "From" has received a >

But my system adds no additional >. Not in my former message

that the additional sign is added at reception time, not when

OK, guys. After a hole morning of muddling things, and thanks to Mark's
advice in another thread -Using PGP for encryption- (* There is a really good
discussion list for PGP beginners which is
called PGP-Basics. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is a quick
link for subscribing to that list. *), I learned the difference
between the Bat and PGPtray, and I am walking again.

SO NO NEED OF RESPONSE BY NOW.

I am rushing to read the remaining 4000 messages in PGP-basics.

PGP encryption

2001-03-11 Thread Joan Josep

Hi batters!,
I am a newbie trying to climb the steep learning curve of TB.
Trying tp follow the TB help instructions and this NG, I installed version 7 of
PGP, uninstalled it, installed version 6.5.8, created a key ring and even
succeded in sending myself, to a second e-mail account, a locked
message, and then unlocking the received mail.
Now, when I try to go ahead and import a key following the directions
in another TB thread, TB tells me that I have to create a key first. I
cannot even lock a new message as I did before.
After all this experimenting, I finished with a key ring in a
directory Network Associates\PGP\PGP Keyrings. This contains the files
pubring.pkr, secring.skr, and four backups (1 to 4) of each file.
According to PGPKeys, the key pair expires next year.
How can I make TB recognize these keypair?
Should I uninstall and start everything over?
Any exit from this labirynth?
I lifesaver from the experts would be greatly appreciated.
