corrupted message base
Bats- It happened again. I got an error message from The Bat! announcing that one of my folders had a corrupted message base. I quickly made a backup of the .TBB file and then clicked OK on the message box. The number of messages in that folder went down from 616 to 281. I tried rebuilding the index, but no luck. I then tried importing from the saved copy of the message base, but again no luck. Browsing the deleted files didn't do it either. My only possible clue is that I changed the option settings about a month ago to save attachments in a separate folder instead of inline. Looking into the saved message base file I see that there are still inline attachments from before that time. Could this be a source of problems? And if so, is there anything I can do about it to prevent this from happening to other folders? There doesn't seem to be an option to save existing attachments into a separate folder...I know I can save the attachments myself and then delete them from the emails, but that won't associate them anymore. And there's no obvious indication of whether an attachment is stored inline or externally without digging through the message base with a hex editor. -Mark [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using The Bat! v1.60h on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2 Current Ver: 1.60m FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Bug Reports: https://bt.ritlabs.com

Wednesday, May 29, 2002, 10:19:19 AM, you wrote: RO Weird, never happened to me. How often do you compress your folders? Well, not too often on most of them. I've got the inboxes and trash folders set to compress on exit. RO That's not much, TB should be able to handle lots more. I've got RO several folders with thousands of messages. Thousands of messages would scare me to death. I try to keep mine down to a manageable size. With the inline attachments the message base was 17MB in size. That doesn't seem unreasonable, but it's big in relation to the number of messages. RO When did you run scandisk for the last time on the disk or defragged RO it. Is your system otherwise instable? Virusscanner? When I made the last changes to the options it was because I was moving to a new win2k server, to the whole machine is only about a month old. I hate to admit this about a Windows system, but it's been very stable. It gets a clean bill of health and I've run TB for a few years now with no problems. RO I'm not sure. What about a filter that extracts the attachments? Don't RO know whether that keeps the association with the messages intact. I don't have a problem with extracting the attachments and deleting them from the original messages. I just don't see that there's a way to get them out of the message base file and still keep that association. I may have to resort to mailing them to myself and deleting the original. -Mark [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using The Bat! v1.60h on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2 Current Ver: 1.60m FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Bug Reports: https://bt.ritlabs.com
Corrupted Message Base
I'm writing from my Yahoo account since I can't get into The Bat program to write from there. :-( Anyways it appears my message database is corrupted somehow. When I open The Bat, it tells me such and such file is corrupted (whichever folder it happens to be in when the program is opened) and asks if it should be repaired. I tell it yes, to repair it, but it doesn't seem to be working, only locks up the program (not responding). Any suggestions? I've tried re-installing over the program, but that doesn't work. I haven't uninstalled/re-installed yet because I don't want to lose my messages! Help! Thanks! Jana Wright __ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! If they're in the default location, look in the TB! installation directory in the Mail subdirectory. Each account has it's own folder with each folder in the account being represented by its own explorer folder. Open the folder that's causing the error (i.e., the folder that TB! is opening upon startup) and move the messages.tbb and messages.tbi files to another location. TB! should now restart but the folder with the corrupted message base will be empty. As to recovering the message base if TB! cannot repair it then you're in trouble. I can't stress too much the importance of backing up your mail in case of these eventualities. What version of TB! are you running? Be sure that you're the latest version because, IRC, there were problems with repairing message bases in earlier versions. - -- ©Allie C. Hello Michael Heydekamp, Responding to your article on Friday, April 21, 2000 at 20:30:08 GMT +0200 (which was 24/04/2000 1:30 GMT +0700 my Local Time) : MH Could not create a new index of message base MH The same happens when I invoke "Compress all folders" from the MH Folder menu. When I try to delete the most recent message that MH arrived in this folder, TB! hangs. S Could it be that you don't have enough disk space on TB's partition? MH Unlikely, 'cause the msg base is on the Novell server. MH Apart from that, the problem appears - as I said - only with this MH one specific folder (the Inbox of the second account). No problem MH with all the other folders which are sitting on the very same Novell MH server (and even below the same subdir structure). I put all of my folder (primary account) on Netware 4.11 drive (Long Name Space support), and it happen only once here, i.e. when I got electricity spike, so my PC rebooting (no problem with my server, due the UPS buffer it). The symptom exactly same as yours, but after I delete *.tbi on the corrupted folder, everything going fine. TB! reindexing. Not that deleting the file did help, but it was not even possible to delete it (Win98 complained something about "write protected"). That rang a bell - obviously due to some reason Novell was confused and thought (and passed the wrong information to the client OS) that there is an exclusive lock or something like that on the file. That happens from time to time. A logout and relogin solved the "problem".
