No way to purge unread messages in common folder

Hello, My Gmail account pulls in messages for the beta list for TheBat! Message count is over 5,000 and I have it set to keep *only* 300 messages. The messages are sorted and placed in a common folder: Lists TheBat! Beta The folder settings for Beta are set to Max stored messages =
