Text input box in front of message list
Hi I have an unlabelled text input box mysteriously appeared today in front of my message list. It appears to function as a Quicksearch box. I cannot seem to get rid of it. Right-clicking and selecting hide minimises TB! and gives a dialogue box saying cannot focus a disabled or invisible window. TB! then requires several clicks to un-minimise. TB! keeps becoming unresponsive for several minutes and takes an age to re-paint itself when the view changes (eg view a message with a rogue and the now-empty picture remains when viewing the next message. View a message with attachments and when viewing the next message the left portion of the text is obliterated by a white square where the attachment pane was) Messages sometimes failing to appear in the preview pane at all. See screenshot of text box at http://snurl.com/10xjy or http://mfpa.nfshost.com/TB_screenshot_unwanted_search_box.GIF -- Best regards, MFPA Always be on the lookout for conspicuousness Using The Bat! v3.80.06 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 Current version is 3.85.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Text input box in front of message list
Hello MFPA, I have an unlabelled text input box mysteriously appeared today in front of my message list. It appears to function as a Quicksearch box. As Alexander has already pointed out, it _is_ the QuickSearch toolbar that may appear docked in the toolbar menu or floating like in your case. In regards to the behaviour you are observing when trying to hide it, which I do with Esc key and never fails, I'd suggest the following: - From your screenshot (GIF), I'd assume your are using some kind of Theme, I don't know if from WindowBlinds (or similar) or from The Bat itself. I have had problems with both in the past, so the first thing I'd suggest if using TB's Default theme and see if it makes any difference. - If the above doesn't help, as you seem to be using an old version of TB, why not upgrade to the latest one? - Finally, you seem to be using XP SP1, why not upgrade to SP2? -- Best regards, Miguel A. When the box is visible on the quicksearch toolbar, anything typed into the one in front of the message list is duplicated there in real time (although not deleted but will be overwritten). Selecting the box on the toolbar yields external exception 8003. Or can you drag drop it into the menu bar maybe? I cannot move it at all. I have tried replacing TB!'s registry entries with a backup but it made no difference. Any idea where the menu/toolbar customisation settings are stored? The problem only arose today. If I can't sort it I may well try that. - Finally, you seem to be using XP SP1, why not upgrade to SP2? [SOT] Because SP2 causes my PC to become unusable due to constant crashes, freezing or spontaneous re-boots. The most obvious symptom is that windows explorer experiences a problem and needs to shut down if I double-click or right click an icon (almost any icon). This is followed within a couple of minutes by Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger also experiencing a problem and needing to close down and I can then do nothing until I do a three fingered salute and kill several instances of Dr Watson from the task manager.. Have tried repeatedly to find a solution to this. Most suggestions relate to software clashes with SP2 but always software that is not present on my machine. OEM copy of Windows XP SP1 so I do not have an installation disk, although there is a partition on my HD containing an image to restore to out of the box state. I could back everything up and try that but what would be the advantage?
