Why does TheBat! show an entire message thread unread when one message
in the thread is actually the unread message?
I find it only confusing to mark an entire message thread unread if
only one or more message in the mesage thread are actually new unread
messages.

Probably because it's easier to spot the unread message within closed
thread this way?

It doesn't really mark the entire thread unread. It emboldens the
thread.
