I've heard it being mentioned, that follow-up has been
renamed to/replaced by a 'references' as displayable header in the
message editor in the current beta cycle. And since you're using a
beta...

Yes, under view it's called Follow-up to in 1.62r. In the beta,
it's called, I think (I'm on 1.62r now), References.

Per Marck's reply in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Make that Follow-up for pre-1.63 versions and you're done You
are on 1.63 so it would be References.

reply as a new thread

2003-06-27 Thread Wilfried Mestdagh
Hello,

What is the best / most conveniant way to reply to a message ..but.. start a
  new thread ?

For example in many mailing list many people just hit reply to start a new
thread. I want for example answer to sutch mail with same subject and with
quotes, but at the same time start a new thread.

I usually go CTRL-A (mark all) CTRL-C (copy) then CTRL-N (new message) and
ALT-INS (paste as quotation). Have to manually add the TO: field (and
subject, but that is what I want most of the time anyway) though.

While I think this is already pretty good, I would be glad to know an even
more comfortable way. :-)

I think you're stuck with the method neurowerx outlined. Or, you
could modify a hot-key activate filter to remove the references and
in-reply-to fields and imports to the outbox - there's such a routine
in the library and one I've written in tb-tech.

With the 1.63 Beta, here's another method:

Hit Reply. In View, make sure References is checked. Delete the
references (this also eliminate the in-reply-to field).

ftp.ritlabs.com/pub/the_bat/beta

Quite a few things have changed. Variables have been introduced and
some old QTs need to be modified. Let me know if you want a summary
of the changes in each of the betas by private email.

BM With the 1.63 Beta, here's another method:

BM Hit Reply. In View, make sure References is checked. Delete the
BM references (this also eliminate the in-reply-to field).

This has been a standard feature since 1.4x and doesn't need the
beta to work. All that has changed is nomenclature - it used to be
called follow-up.

Just view Follow-up and delete it, change the subject and that
will form a new thread from a reply.
