The school administration has never requested access to servers,
though the superintendent has all the server admin passwords (in a
sealed file in the safe) in case the school needs them. So technically
he does have access, though he has never indicated any desire to use
it. Anything he wants done

If you gave the access to them and they screwed it up, then the board of
education could make YOU the superintendent or principal.
A, doesn't it make one

I think maybe admin rights vs filesystem right should be declared separately.
Many of those in the school setting non technical could not understand how to
deal with the rights and importance of "admin" rights to say the server/admin

There's no way I'd give my supt. or principal admin rights on my servers or
domain. They wouldn't know what to do with it anyway and if they did have it
and use it they'd more than likely screw up the entire network.

I give them access to what they need to have access to. I do no give
them "the keys to the kingdom". I will only do that if I have a
written directive from the superintendent and only after I have
discussed with him the possible - dare I say probable - ramifications
of such a move.
