Re: [Test-Announce] 2015-04-27 Blocker Review meeting cancelled due to lack of blockers

It seems Adam has looked onto a wrong milestone, because I'm seeing 9 proposed Final blockers: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/milestone/22/final/buglist Which means the blocker review meeting might still happen, in case we have enough people around to participate. -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test

Re: nouveau driver freeze -- can anyone else reproduce this?
Hi, the reason why I ask again, if really the nouveau driver is active, when using Geeqie, is a look into /var/log/Xorg.0.log, where in my case (hybrid grafics intel/nvidia) I don't find the nouveau driver, which would explain, why I don't have the error described in this thread. see part of /var/log/Xorg.0.log: 148.883]Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 148.883]ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 19.0 [ 148.883] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810, i810-dc100, i810e, i815, i830M, 845G, 854, 852GM/855GM, 865G, 915G, E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 945GME, Pineview GM, Pineview G, 965G, G35, 965Q, 946GZ, 965GM, 965GME/GLE, G33, Q35, Q33, GM45, 4 Series, G45/G43, Q45/Q43, G41, B43 [ 148.884] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) HD Graphics: 2000-6000 [ 148.884] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) Iris(TM) Graphics: 5100, 6100 [ 148.884] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) Iris(TM) Pro Graphics: 5200, 6200, P6300 Therefore my question in case of Matthews Lenovo, is it really the nouveau driver or another video driver, which causes the Geeqie error? It's the right-click context menu you get when clicking on a filename in geeqie. It's nothing special -- 14 items in three groups, with View in new window being the longest item. 150x300 pixels, maybe? OK so nothing special about it ... odd. Yeah. I did get what seemed like the same behavior with a context menu in Gimp *once*, but can't reproduce there. However, geeqie seems to very reliably trigger it. And it seems to be only _that_ right-click menu, in the filelist, not others in the app. I guess I can go around right-clicking in other programs to see if it happens. One thing that occurs to me is that the placement of this menu means that when it comes up, it almost always comes up on top of a scrollbar and into another panel. *Maybe* that interaction causes some rendering need which triggers the bug? Seems like a longshot, and I really don't know what I'm talking about here. :) -- Matthew Miller mat...@fedoraproject.org Fedora Project Leader -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test

Belated notifications?
I'm facing an issue with F22 where notifications in GNOME Shell seem to survive a shutdown/reboot. Eventually I notice there are notifications, and when I look them up, they are about events from the previous day, for example. Something similar to You may unplug the drive, and it has been disconnected already long ago. Shutdown after updates?
Another strange issue with F22. I bootet and the offline update procedure started (without me having started it knowingly). When done, it said it would shutdown after updates, and it really turnt off the machine instead of rebooting. What has happened there? Re: nouveau driver freeze -- can anyone else reproduce this?
Hi To this video driver problem I want to ask: As I said I can not reproduce this Geeqie behaviour. In my laptop I have hybrid grafic, something from Intel and a NVIDIA Geforce 840M. I found 2 video drivers installed: Xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.99.917-6.20150.x86_64 and Xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-1.0.11-2.fc22.x86_64 As it seems to be in MS Windows 8.1 normal use in grafics is the Intel Chip and only with high grafic load the Nvidia chip is added. Testing now this Geeqie problem how can I test which driver is used Intel or Nouveau. Is in F22 always Nouveau and the Nvidia chip is used, or is it similar to MS Windows? [Test-Announce] Proposal to CANCEL: 2015-04-27 Fedora QA Meeting
Hi folks! I'm proposing we cancel today's/tomorrow's QA meeting. I had kinda intended to put the Council meeting thing on the agenda, but I didn't manage to send it out in time to give people enough warning, and we don't really need to do it *this week*, as we have a bit of time before the expected slot. Other than that I don't think we have much to discuss. 22 Final TC1 is scheduled for Tuesday, so we'll have lots of juicy testing to do then. If anyone can think of something urgent to discuss, please reply to this mail and we can get together at the usual time (15:00 UTC in #fedora-meeting). Re: Fedora QA subproject status report for council (in June)
On Mon, 2015-04-20 at 13:48 -0400, Matthew Miller wrote: Whoo, beta is (almost) out the door — time for congratulations and thanks to all of the QA team (and hopefully a nice deep breath). I'm looking at planning future meetings for the Fedora Council, and one thing we'd like to have is regular status reports from various subprojects. (This, it turns out, is even part of the _definition_ of a Fedora subproject, although in practice I don't think it's really been happening, if it ever did.) The idea is to have one group report monthly, with a prepared slideshow. It doesn't need to be long or very formal, but something more organized than an unstructured chat. It'd cover: - the current state of the subproject - future plans - things the team needs from the rest of the project - any blockers we can help unblock - big resource requests? and I'm hoping to experiment with doing these as recorded video sessions. (See https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/council-discuss/2015 -April/013298.html) for more background and discussion.) Is anyone from QA interested and willing to volunteer? There's an open slot in the plan on June 8th, which, fingers crossed and knock on wood and all of the superstitions, will be after the F22 release. Sorry for taking a bit of time over this! It sounds like a great idea and I think it'd be a good idea for us to send someone along. I'm happy to do it, but equally happy to defer if anyone else wants to. I'd also suggest we could discuss together as a group what we want the representative to pass along at the Council meeting - we can do it in this thread, and perhaps also in the QA meetings. -- Adam Williamson Fedora QA Community Monkey IRC: adamw | Twitter: AdamW_Fedora | XMPP: adamw AT happyassassin . net http://www.happyassassin.net -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test

Re: Belated notifications?

Eventually I notice there are notifications, and when I look them up, they are about events from the previous day, for example. Apparently, the system didn't notice or didn't inform the notification system that it may expire the message. An important software update has failed, and clicking it only starts gnome-software with no hint on what has failed or when. The last update has been done with dnf, btw. Well, that seems like kind of a complex issue. It doesn't seem safe to simply assume all notifications older than 'X' are obsolete and should not be shown - seems far too simple. So, I'm not sure there's a single 'fix' for this. In any case this is clearly a GNOME thing not a Fedora thing, so it'd probably be best to discuss it on a GNOME list, or at least on the desktop@ list rather than test@ ? -- Adam Williamson Fedora QA Community Monkey IRC: adamw | Twitter: AdamW_Fedora | XMPP: adamw AT happyassassin . net http://www.happyassassin.net -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test
Proposal: Split up QA:Testcase_desktop_updates into three separate test cases
Hey folks! So several people have commented in the past that https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_desktop_updates is kind of a mess, and I think that's correct. I think we were trying to make things 'efficient' at the time by exercising several different things in one test, but it really does result in a messy, hard-to-comprehend test case. So, I propose we split it into three separate test cases, and I've drafted them up: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_QA_Testcase_base_upd ate_cli https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_QA_Testcase_desktop_ update_graphical https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_QA_Testcase_desktop_ update_notification The first would be an Alpha test case in the Base (not desktop) results page, and just covers installing updates with yum/dnf. The second would be a Beta test case in the Desktop page, and covers installing updates from a graphical desktop. The third would be a Final test case in the Desktop page, and covers notification of available updates. I'm also planning to draft some additional test cases covering package installation and removal tomorrow - mainly for the test day we have coming up, but it would probably not be a bad idea to have them as release validation tests as well. What do folks think? Does this look like an improvement? Thanks! -- Adam Williamson Fedora QA Community Monkey IRC: adamw | Twitter: AdamW_Fedora | XMPP: adamw AT happyassassin . net http://www.happyassassin.net -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test

Currently the Gnome SW update mechanism seems to run faulty
Hi, when I run install updates via Yumex, there are no updates to install. When I try to do the same with Gnome SW there are 3 updates requested (see screenshot,. this is my current way to explain, what I mean, because of lack of the correct English SW terms), but they will not be installed, when requested. I think the updates requested are already installed, but still requested. Or the Betriebsystemaktualisierungen are announced somewhere, but not in the library, where the updates will be taken to install, anyway there seem to be an error somewhere in Gnome. Date 2015-04-27 15:31 UTC. Is this worthwhile to file a bug? Kind Regards-- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test

Hi, would like to try, but vgaswitcheroo seems to be ubuntu, can not find this in F22 directory in /.../debug If possible I would like to switch to Nvidia chip without using an second external screen but using the Nouveau driver, to test this Geeqie problem. I hope they know what they're doing. Perhaps they have some idea, but it also appears there is the grand sum total of zilch QA applied to the samba update before being hoisted upon the unsuspecting Fedora. Well. F22 is an *pre-release*, remember. By running F22 you are a tester; this is why updates-testing is enabled by default for Branched releases. You can, however, disable it, if you want to let other people do the testing for you. Besides, this is clearly not a straightforward bug, because it's not affecting everyone. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2015-6842/samba-4.2.1 -4.fc22 It didn't happen to me: [adamw@adam isos]$ rpm -q libwbclient libwbclient-4.2.1-4.fc22.x86_64 [adamw@adam isos]$ ls -l /usr/lib64/libwbclient.so.0 lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 19 Apr 27 10:17 /usr/lib64/libwbclient.so.0 - libwbclient.so.0.12 adamw@adam isos]$ ls -l /usr/lib64/libwbclient.so.0.12 lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 40 Apr 27 10:17 /usr/lib64/libwbclient.so.0.12 - /etc/alternatives/libwbclient.so.0.12-64 alternatives is always fragile, and I don't know why the package is using this system, but it doesn't *always* go wrong. There must be some other factor involved which causes the system to get broken in some cases but not others. The use of alternatives for wbclient was introduced in Nov 2014: * Fri Nov 21 2014 Andreas Schneider a...@redhat.com - 4.2.0-0.2.rc2 - Use alternatives for libwbclient. The only explanation provided is this note in the spec: # Move libwbclient.so* into private directory, it cannot be just libdir/samba # because samba uses rpath with this directory. That feels questionable to me - it seems like there should be a better way to do it than with alternatives - but it's hard to be sure without more details. -- Adam Williamson Fedora QA Community Monkey IRC: adamw | Twitter: AdamW_Fedora | XMPP: adamw AT happyassassin . net http://www.happyassassin.net -- test mailing list test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/test
