[SWR] SWR 50th Anniversary
Stephen Linda: Although I was unable to attend the SWR celebration, it was in my thoughts. Moreover, I am awed at the persistence and dedication you exhibited in making this event the great success it surely was. I followed your postings and urgings as month after month you kept the ball rolling. Your dedication should serve as an inspiration to others. Half a century of nearly anything is worthy of note. Regrettably, In Texas such things tend to pass with little, if any, pomp and ceremony. Congratulations to you and all who had a part in this landmark event. I don’t suppose you would consider relocating to Texas? 8-) ===Carl Kunath ___ SWR mailing list s...@caver.net http://caver.net/mailman/listinfo/swr_caver.net

I use a google translate, hope you understand!!! Dear Speakers and workshop. - I am grateful for the time spent by the desire to participate, the quality of their papers, that you shared with us all. Opening a forum for specialists not only from caves aquatic could share the results of their research and experiences with the audience of Quintana Roo, opened an interesting forum for the formation of new groups, new projects, new regulations, invitations to expeditions, forums and national and international conferences, of course, was achieved awakening an awareness of conservation specialists, students, guides, owners of caves and sinkholes, addition to teachers and cavers. For all these reasons, I ask you at this time fresh ideas that continue to share with sponsors the result of their work. One of the purposes when they apply for the sponsorship was to share the results of the work in the caves. In this way contribute to our presence have weight to them and leave the door open for any other work I beg you send me that information to integrate it into a report that I must deliver before returning to my state, so we have until June 5. [Texascavers] [Texas Cavers Reunion 2012]
O.K. Texas Cavers, this is it, the official announcement for Texas Cavers Reunion 2012!! October 18, 19, 20 21, 2012 is the date. Paradise Canyon is the place. For those who know, it's a great place in south Texas for car camping and caver camaraderie. The park has grown in size since our last TCR there, the camping extends all the way to the downstream bridge. There will be additional bathrooms and cabin facilities for those who want to splurge and get A/C and a bed. The rest of us will have very nice campsites down by the Medina River. The park has improved many of the banks along the river and added more picnic tables. Paradise Canyon is a wonderful place for our Speleolympics, Hot Tub, Big Feed, Swimming, Awards, carousing, fun and of course - The Parade! This year's theme: 2012; Mayan Apocalypse! Prices, Menu, Facebook and other specifics will be forthcoming. d...@oztotl.com - Visit our website: http://texascavers.com To unsubscribe, e-mail: texascavers-unsubscr...@texascavers.com For additional commands, e-mail: texascavers-h...@texascavers.com

Re: [Texascavers] [Texas Cavers Reunion 2012]
Thanks for organizing this Don! Great news about the air-conditioned cabins being available at Paradise Canyon, which might persuade my non-caving and non-camping girlfriend to accompany me this year. However, I see the price for cabins on the Paradise Canyon website is $155 a night with a two night minimum, plus tax, and you have to bring your own sheets, pillows and towels. Back in the day, that amount of money would have covered a month of caving in Mexico. Frank On 6/1/12 1:23 PM, Arburn Don d...@oztotl.com wrote: O.K. [SWR] Fwd: Proclamation
There's one bit of unfinished business regarding the SWR 50th Anniversary. But, first, some background. This mostly is for the edification of those living in other states that get this message, but an occasional reminder to locals doesn't hurt. Most folks living in New Mexico know that it is the Land of Enchantment; after all, it's on the license plates. However, residents also know it as the Land of Maana as things often happen on a timetable unrelated to schedules, needs or desires. In some cases, tomorrow never actually arrives. Thus it is with the above in mind that the following is, as Rod Serling (Twilight Zone guy for those unfamiliar) would say, offered for your consideration. On March 11, 2012, I made a request to the New Mexico Governor's office for a statewide proclamation recognizing the Southwestern Region's 50th Anniversary. Proclamations are at the discretion of the Governor and according to the website: Requests will be accepted no more than 6 months in advance and will not be issued more than 3 months in advance of the event. Four week notice is required to provide proclamations. Proclamations are requested online and there is no follow-up. It either happens or it doesn't. You will note that the date of my request was well within all the parameters listed above. As the date of the event approached, I eagerly checked the mail, hoping for a document. On Friday, May 25, the day before the event, the mailbox was empty. BUST ! Well, this morning I received an email from the Governor's office informing me the proclamation was being mailed today. Refer again to the top of this email for a refresher on maana. Thus, the document will finally arrive approximately diez maanas after it was desirable to receive it. But, it has/will come. Since some lists don't allow attachments, check the SWR website after a bit to view it. I've left it attached to this message in the event it goes through to some. Now, when it does arrive, what do we do with it? We should publicize it (the Ruidoso papers would probably print it, and perhaps send the PDF to cooperating agencies/organizations), but the question is for ultimate disposition. Since the SWR lacks a museum (Belski's garage is the closest thing to such a facility and it does not have regular visiting hours, nor a gallery or docents), I suggest we submit it to the NSS museum for archival purposes. However, it's up to the SWR officers to decide. CaversDay.PDF Description: Adobe PDF document ___ SWR mailing list s...@caver.net http://caver.net/mailman/listinfo/swr_caver.net

Re: [SWR] Fwd: Proclamation
Steve, One other option to consider is possibly to have it displayed at the NIKRI building which would keep it in the southwest area and get us some recognition by those visiting NIKRI. That of course would require George to agree to such a display. However, by reference you bring up another subject and that is the large volume of cave files in Belski's garage. While he will probably live to approximately 150 years of age, it is not a near term problem. But at some time he will probably become so infirm as to be unable to guard the secrets and keep them current. At some point Mañana will arrive and the disposition of the items in Belski's garage will have to be determined. Then again he may have already figured out what will be done with them. Diana, I appreciate the kind thought and NCKRI is happy to accept donations of historical significance, but the Southwestern Region is the Southwestern Region of the National Speleological Society and so the NSS is the more appropriate home for the proclamation. Now, when it does arrive, what do we do with it? We should publicize it (the Ruidoso papers would probably print it, and perhaps send the PDF to cooperating agencies/organizations), but the question is for ultimate disposition. [tcrcooks] food stuff
Guys, Using Pre-Columbian guide lines for Mayan food choices is really limiting. I question if Terry wants to make vegetarians out of all of us. Lets move the time line up to the time the white boys landing on the continent, there by increasing our food stock choices. Thank god they had avocados, I had a stuffed fried avocado the other day and it was gd. If not, lets just make it a vegetarian feast. I do not believe that most of the cavers would like all the peppers we would use or that we will find meat of P-C origin we would like. Talking about dogs and green peaches. My recipe: Avocado fried in corn oil with a thin maize coating stuffed with Terry's dog or turkey. Can I have a little cheese?please Tommy Joe - To subscribe, e-mail: tcrcooks-subscr...@texascavers.com To unsubscribe, e-mail: tcrcooks-unsubscr...@texascavers.com For additional commands, e-mail: tcrcooks-h...@texascavers.com

Now, when it does arrive, what do we do with it? We should publicize it (the Ruidoso papers would probably print it, and perhaps send the PDF to cooperating agencies/organizations), but the question is for ultimate disposition.

- Visit our website: http://texascavers.com To unsubscribe, e-mail: texascavers-unsubscr...@texascavers.com For additional commands, e-mail: texascavers-h...@texascavers.com
