Subject: [Texascavers] [TCR 2017 Success!]

Hey everyone, another successful Texas cavers reunion is behind us now, well
done! Good job everybody! It was awesome! IT WAS!

Not much to report in the Lost & Found Department this year, for once, yay!

The owner is happy, the park is clean. Next years deposit is paid, no date set
yet.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

I didn’t want to harsh your mellow, on Saturday night, but 2017 was my last TCR
as Director. I did six TCRs. I’m sorry folks, it was fun, rewarding and an
adventure! My resignation is on a high point, I feel, with TCR is in good shape
with a head start on 2018, with a year to solve my absence.

The music was very very good!
The food was very very good! Great job!!
We had INTERNATIONAL Cavers visit from Mexico!
We had David Locklear!
The NSS represented!
The Texas Contingent represented!
The Aggies had a challenging Speleolympics course!
There was a REBELAY course!
We had a hot tub, sauna AND spring water!
There was a SLIDESHOW!
There were POWERWAGONS in service!
There was a HUGE board game.
There were barbarian Viking HOARDS!!
We had MUD GLADIATORS!!
There was schmoozing, I SAW IT!
People smiled!
What more can you ask for?
I’m happy!

Thank you
—Don

[Texascavers] Save the Caves, September 30th!

2017-09-17 Thread Denise P via Texascavers
The TCMA FUNdraiser on 9/30 is getting close!
The venue, Buffalo Billiards, is located in downtown Austin at 201 E 6th St,
Austin, TX 78701. It is at the SE corner of 6th and Brazos. Parking downtown
can be a challenge. Sorry, but paying will probably be required unless you get
creative! Here are some transportation/parking ideas, none researched super
thoroughly, so have a Plan B just in case! Safety is an issue, so please don’t
walk alone in downtown Austin, buddy system recommended!

  *   Capitol Metro (the bus)
  *   Rail from north Austin
  * Bike from home or from a nearby location with easier parking
  * Auditorium Shores (SW corner of S 1st and Riverside)
  * One Texas Ctr Garage *SE corner S 1st and Riverside)
  * Capitol Visitors Parking Garage (1201 San Jacinto)
  *505 S Congress Parking
  *   Central Parking (707 E 7th)
  * Parking under I35 near E 7th (a bit sketchy in terms of lots of homeless
people)
  * Street parking off 7th east of I35
  *   JW Marriott (110 E 2nd)
  * Palmers Event Ctr (900 Barton Springs)
  * AMLI Downtown Parking (201 Lavaca)
  *   Premium Parking (601 E 8th)
  * William P Hobby Jr Bldg (333 Guadalupe)
  * State Parking Garage (enter on San Antonio between 3rd and 4th St.)
  * 5th St Parking (5th and Red River)

Hope to see you there! Buy tickets early to save 25%! And raffle tickets
available on line even if you can't attend the event itself!

Folks,

Looks like the tropical storm in the gulf is intensifying and they are calling
for near record to record rainfall along the coast and inland in the Houston
Area tomorrow through Sunday.

This is a slow moving storm and may result in a great deal of flooding.

If you’re thinking of leaving the area and need a place to say, we can open our
house up to a few caving families.

Be aware that we have two cats.

could help with prep and such. I volunteer Dale for dishes :)

And I think catering is a fine alternative.

Don

If you can find an organizer I will be happy to help with a main dish or
coordinate and produce a side dish

I know there are several cavers who have done the same in the past, had a great
time, and are eager to do it again

For anyone who hasn't and has some aptitude for cooking... step up and have a
swing at it, being part of this effort is fun and is a great way to get to know
other cavers from across the big state. Who knows, you might get yourself
invited on a "secret caving trip"

Did I forget to mention cooks eat first

Each has its benefit and drawbacks. I need to get a feel for options.

Re: [Texascavers] [TCR][Registration & Vendors]

And don't
forget to bring cash for a dinner Friday night by the cooks to raise money
for a trailer and a breakfast by TCMA on Sunday morning. Both are
available for a reasonable fee. Bring your cups, plates, utensils.

Obviously, I thought I was sending that last message directly to Jill not the
whole list. Apologies.

Anyway, can you check see if I'm still on the mailing list for the dead-tree

Charlie-Please don't insult the food and cooks. They volunteer their time and
do a great job. You could maybe grab some Luby's or McDonald's on the way over.

I thought it was a Friday thing? Schedule seems different for some reason. My
motivation is lacking for some reason. I am building up for the Devil's River
thing which happens on the same weekend as our wedding anniversary and I
usually forget that. Duh! Anyway I will try to drag myself over there for a few
hours. The food is always terrible as I recall from the last time I went when
Ed died.

Finally figured out where it is. My Spring Branch is near Houston. What exactly
is the schedule? Is it a Friday affair or a Saturday affair? I have given up
camping and don't have a camper or any of that falderal. I have missed the past
four or five OTRs and wanted to attend but may miss out again. Maybe I will
come by for a visit on Friday.

From: texascavers@texascavers.com

Greetings Cavers -

There will once again be an informal wine tasting on Friday night near the
Bexar Grotto campground. I'd say starting around 6:45ish but things are
flexible and we may start drinking earlier or later, who are we kidding, It
will be earlier!

To participate please bring a bottle of wine to share with the group. Shoot
for something better than Boone's Farm but less than Stag's Leap Artemis.

Consider bringing a snack to share too, though it is not required.

Bring a cup if you have one, we will have some loaners.

See ya around 6:45pm on Friday!

Joe and Christi
