Pattinathadigal a sage who left all the richness and smooth life and turned
a sage was wandering. And heard that his mother was dead. And as a sage no
one shall give him the Agni as He is the Agni. Then he sang the above
verses and raised the fire to cremate his mother. His words on mother
nature is indescribable in any other language even if translated; for those
who may not know the language a brief words of his usages as short content.

When again I shall see that mother who bore me for ten months and
fed me; Will I be able to burn my mother, who did penance to carry me, and
did it for 300 days with the slanted stomach bearing the weight and
tortures, weighting with the prayers to Sivam?.

Have I to burn a mother who cherished me all the time on small beds,
in swings and chest and shoulders and on the cots, hugging me too close all
these years?

Have I to burn that body, who delivered me after bearing all the
pains and sufferings, raised me, with the breast milk and at all times
keeping me too close.?

How can I place the rice in her mouth which called me by many sweet
names? how can I lay the fire to the face which kissed me a lot?; Thus with
the lament he raise d the fire by this verse:

Tripuram was burnt by Lord Siva, so he says the former fire burnt the
Tripuram; then later Hanuman burnt the Sri Lanka by back tail fire; my
mother fed my Agni in the stomach; and let my fire to her glow to burn her.
OH Lord Siva, she is burning; she is becoming ashes; I did it without any
remorse to a lady who never even allowed a fly to fly above me. Hey Siva,
did she reach you? Did she forget me? One who was always thinking about you
Lord, one who gave me birth, she was at home; she was in the markets;
yesterday she was there; and today she became the ashes. Please all of you
please come to sprinkle milk for her ashes without any second thought.
Everything is SIVAM.

Hoisted and unfurled

2021-08-14 Thread cnu pne
On 15th August, on India's Independence Day, the *tricolour*, our national flag
is "hoisted", whereas on the 26th January, that is, on our Republic Day, it is
"unfurled".

What is the difference between hoisting the flag and unfurling the same?

Well, on 15th August, the flag is kept folded, down at the middle of the flag
pole, and is pulled up at the tip of the pole before it is spread out. This is
hoisting of a flag. It signifies the country was freed after a span of colonial
domination.

On the other hand, on 26th January (since 1950) the tricolour is unfurled, that
is, the flag stays high up at the tip of the flag pole, (not at the middle or
lower height of the pole) folded, and is spread out with the pull of the rope.
This is unfurling of the tricolour. It signifies that as a flag of an already
free country, it cannot stay hung at a lower height, but is held high above.

This is a small but very significant aspect of how our tricolour is honoured
with the country's history...

A good piece of information, one must be educated. I have a bitter experience
on a occassion of flag hoisting. We were shocked to-see that the flag is
hoisted upside down. The flag was pulled down and rehoisted. The concerned
officer for the ceremony was sent on forced leave for week. This is a real
experience I witnesses in my department in early sixties

in 2003 blog is said to reveal this as per the current author. No where in
any scriptures including Rig Vedam, Agni Puranam, Skanda Puranam ,
Bharatham and Ramayanam, it is mentioned that Vasishta met Ravanan. A spin
well made of. Ravanan curse of death came from the suicide of Vedavathi ( a
river is also known by that name) who was molested by Ravanan; Abd Sita was
born out of Vedavati curse; and her husband Rama killed Ravana. And it is
in the scriptures that Vasishta' son is sakthi whose son is Parasara and

Q1  DoIndian doctors regret becoming doctors?

A1  Amatya Meenati Former teacher ofMount Carmel School Updated
August 4

I can’t say aboutothers but one of my friends working in Medanta hospital
Gurgaon was literallycrying while talking to me yesterday .

I had called herafter taking vaccination just to discuss post care after
vaccination . I tookmy shot on Sunday .

She has alsoreceived prime minister ‘s appreciation certificate as front line
dedicatedworker .

When Icongratulated her …….. she burst out . I was heartbroken ……

She said first timeshe is regretting for becoming a doctor . She said she
doesn’t mind wearing PPEkits and working for straight fifteen hours but she
gets disturbed by thebehaviour of some people.

She has to seeevery day hundred shades of human behaviours .

She has seenpregnant wife left by her husband when he came to know about her
being Covidpositive .

She has seen peoplenot claiming their relatives dead bodies.

She has also seenpeople loosing all their properties in saving their dear ones
lives .

She was saying shehas seen the different shades of human characters in these
last two years whatshe had not seen in previous thirty years of working career .

She said she isemotionally exhausted now . She can’t take the mental trauma
anymore . No onehad thought that this pandemic would never end . It’s going on
and on . It’sheart breaking.

I said …… inchocking voice . Be brave …… This shall too pass .

Had the peoplebeing little vigilant and aware of the severity of the pandemic
country wouldnot have suffered so much and we would have not lost lakhs of
lives .

I was listening toher helplessly . And wondering when would our people be
literate enough tounderstand the severity of the virus .

Q2  Howdo I clean water without a RO or filter and make sure it's
safe to drink?

A2  Gaurav Answered February 6, 2019

RO(Reverse Osmosis)is one of the process to treat water.

There are manyprocess which is use for water treatment, but selection of
process is based ontwo parameters, feed water quality or Source of water
(initial water) andrequired water quality (final water after treatment).

There are mainlytwo sources of water, Group Water and Surface Water othet than
rain harvesting.Ground water is present below surface like underground water,
and Surface wateris present above surface.

There are mainlythree type of impurities present in water and their respective
three process iscarried out for removal of there impurities. These are :

    Physical Impurities Chemical Impurities

    Biological Impurities

Physical Impuritiespresent in water like sand, small stone, clay, colour,
odour, etc. These areCombined called as Total Suspended Solid (TSS).

Chemical impuritiespresent in water like Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Carbonate,
Bicarbonate,Sulfate, Nitration, etc. These are Combined called as Total
Dissolved Solid(TDS). It is responsible of electrical conductivity of water.

BiologicalImpurities present in water like algae, microorganisms,E-Coli,
bacteria, etc.

For removal ofthese Impurities, three process is used for removal of these
Impurities :

    Physical Process    Chemical Process

    Biological Processes

Physical Processlike Sedimentation, Screen, Pressure filter, Carbon filter.

Chemical Processlike Removal of Ions. Removal of Ions is done by, Softner,
Demineralisation,Gasification, Reverse Osmosis, Coagulation, Flocculation, etc.

Biologicalprocesses like Chlorination, UV, Sterilization, etc.

So back to yourquestion, you have mentioned water to be used in drinking
purpose. So, theprocess used is only based on your feed water quality because
for drinkingwater parameters is fixed by Beuro of India Standard (BIS).

https://www.indiawaterportal.org/sites/indiawaterportal.org/files/indian_standard_for_drinking_water_as_per_bis_specifications_2010.pdf

Conclusion : Ifyour feed water is too good than you can drink it only after
boiling, but ifyour water is too bad which contain large quality of physical,
chemical andbiological Impurities then you require a specific process of series
of processto achieve required water quality.

Generally DomesticRO system contain, Sand Filter (Removal Small, Sand, Clay),
Carbon Filter(Remove Colour, Odour) and RO Membrane (To reduce TDS). But it can
very bycompanies and their model.

Attention : I haveobserved many Household RO water TDS is too low, which can
create too manyproblems. Because after a time our body become lean in mineral
because theywere absorbed by drinking too TDS water. So please avoid using too
low TDSWater. Be Healthy, Be Happy.

The Flow of Fantasy into Reality

2021-08-14 Thread Markendeya Yeddanapudi
--
*Mar*The Flow of Fantasy into Reality

In free, lush, thick and rapturous nature, breathing continuously creates
emotional relationships, often forcing fantasies and daydreams which are
actually pleasant anticipations. Nature continuously converts the fantasies
into realities. Dreaming and Daydreaming become living. One becomes part of
the gigantic ocean of vibrations of rapture, creating wonderful images of
the future, which become the hormonal instructions to the cells via the
bloodstream. The cells then convert the fantasies into realities. The air
becomes vibrations of all pervading happiness. And one becomes part of
those vibrations, the macro flow of definiteness and complete belief in the
emergence of future abstract realities as changes from fantasies.

Ultimately we are all part of the universe of vibrations as vibrations,
which create first fantasies, propelling us to change the fantasies into
realities. Future never threatens when nature is free and lush. In macro
living as part of the macro vibrations, one becomes part of floods, part of
the gushing lava from volcanoes..., one accepts and feels all nature as
part of self. One participates in nature.

Fantasy is the advance intimation from nature of what is going to happen,
and one adjusts to the fantasies because the hormones take over the work of
converting the fantasies into realities. When one is free from the
so-called economic realities and the hell of uncertainties’ and
probabilities, and allows the free flow of nature into self, one enters the
hormonal habit of definiteness which transforms into faith. Pragmatism and
realism become part of absolute faith in nature and in nature’s bounties.
They do not fetter with acceptance of unpleasant things.

Faith means the faith in the rapturous vibrations of nature, faith in the
lithosphere, in the hydrosphere, in the atmosphere, in the biosphere, in
the cosmos crossing the magnetosphere, and the realization that one is part
of those vibrations. The simple fact is, nature is heaven while hell is
manmade.

Fantasy is just the advance intimation of the pleasant future. If you
destroy nature continuously and call it development, you lose the very
foundation of living, which is fantasizing and daydreaming.

Israel Herd Immunity

2021-08-14 Thread S Chander
*Israel Herd Immunity*

You all know Israel became the first country to inoculate its entire adult
population over age 18. As a result, all schools and colleges were opened
and mask requirements were removed all across the country (barring a few
congested public places). They are now going to be giving everyone
their 3rd Pfizer
booster shots..(when we can’t even get enough of this vaccine that we NEED).

*Here's how they did it:*

*Israel's leaders are all well educated *and many of them have advanced
degrees in science and medicine. Their PM graduated at the top of his class
at MIT and started (but didn't finish) a Ph.D. at Harvard.

They realized at the onset of the pandemic last year that the only way to
beat a virus was through herd immunity, and that vaccination was the key to
expediting this process.

They immediately zeroed in on the two companies that were ahead of the pack
in vaccine development--Pfizer and Moderna. The Israeli PM immediately
developed a personal friendship with the CEOs of these companies (using his
Harvard and MIT connections).

Of course we know the CEO of Pfizer is of Jewish stock & wanted to help
Israel too.

As soon as Pfizer announced successful Phase 3 trials *Israel made a deal
with Pfizer to pick up their first 8 million doses for twice the price ($30
per dose) of what Pfizer was eventually aiming to sell the vaccine.* Israel
also agreed to provide Pfizer with data on the efficacy of the vaccine on
its population. By November 2020, Israel had already acquired the vaccines
it required to immunize its people.

The Israeli PM was asked two weeks ago why they agreed to pay $15 per dose
extra, and his response was classic 2nd order thinking he said that, just
in pure economic numbers, the total amount they overpaid was a minuscule
fraction of what it costs to lock down the country This is not counting the
extra medical costs of Covid and the incalculable price of losing a loved
one. The economic loss from just three days of lockdown was more than the
overpayment for all the vaccines they bought.

*This is how smart people think.*

2021-08-14 Thread S Chander
*Origin of some English idioms..*

Worth Reading..

There is an old Hotel/Pub in Marble Arch, London , which used to have
gallows adjacent to it. Prisoners were taken to the gallows (after a fair
trial of course) to be hung.

The horse-drawn dray, carting the prisoner, was accompanied by an armed
guard, who would stop the dray outside the pub and ask the prisoner if he
would like ''ONE LAST DRINK''.

If he said YES, it was referred to as ONE FOR THE ROAD.
If he declined, that prisoner was ON THE WAGON.

*PS: *There's a Tavern titled: *"The Last Drop"* quite close to my home in
Perth.

So there you go. More bleeding history...

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in
a pot and then once a day it was taken and sold to the tannery. If you had
to do this to survive you were "piss poor", but worse than that were the
really poor folk, who couldn't even afford to buy a pot, they "Didn't have
a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water
temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be
in England. Here are some facts about the 1500s:

Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May
and they still smelled pretty good by June.

However, since they were starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of
flowers to hide the body odour.

Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house
had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and
men, then the women, and finally the children. Last of all the babies
By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it.
Hence the saying, *"Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!"*

Houses had thatched roofs, thick straw piled high, with no wood underneath.
It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other
small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof.
When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and
fall off the roof.
Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a
real problem in the bedroom, where bugs and other droppings could mess up
your nice clean bed.
Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some
protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt.. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt.
Hence the saying, "dirt poor."

The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when
wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing.
As the winter wore on they added more thresh until, when you opened the
door, it would all start slipping outside.
A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way.
Hence: a threshold.

(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always
hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the
pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat
the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight,
then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been
there for quite a while.
Hence the rhyme:
* ''Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot, nine
days old''. *
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When
visitors came over they would hang up their bacon, to show off. It was a
sign of wealth that a man could, "Bring home the bacon."
They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around
talking and ''chew the fat''.

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content
caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning and
death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or
so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the
loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top,
or ''The Upper Crust''.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes
knock the imbibers out for a couple of days.
Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them
for burial.
They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family
would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake
up.
Hence the custom of ''Holding a Wake''.

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places
to bury people, so they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a
bone-house and reuse the grave.
When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have
scratch marks on the inside and they realised they had been burying people
alive.
So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, thread it through

PAZHAM VARUTHATHU

About 10 days backI went to slightly distant supermarket where Kerala items are
available. Onlytwo packets of chips were there with information slip- prepared
in 100% coconut oil.One was with sliced length wise. I had actually gone to
purchase cut chips, asliced chip cut to 2.

However I purchasedboth. On finishing the breadthwise finished, I opened the
other pack today. Itwas not crisp and slightly sweet.  Ilooked at the cover- It
was written in Malayalam “Pazham varuthathu” with English translation-Ripen
banana fried”.

I used to get ripenbanana fried in brown colour cut breadth wise from
Trivandrum. Length wisesliced is found sweeter, yellowish and folded as two or
three depending on thelength. Since it is ripen 95%, the folding might have
occurred.

A doubt occurred inme in that case why pazhampori is not folding. I myself
tried to answer- sliceis at least three times thicker for pazhampori.

In Trivandrum ripenbanana fried obtaining by 2001. It was prepared in only one
shop, near thePassport shop. For fried ripen banana chips we had to tell at
least 2 days inadvance.

I looked at the cover. It is prepared in Cochin, not in Chennai. Many shops in
Chennai prepare bananachips daily; one near Nanganallur Anjaneya temple is very
famous.

So far there are noshops preparing sarkarapuratti in Chennai. Supermarkets also
I have not seenpacked sarkarapuratti. However one shop in T nagar rarely we
gotsarkarapuratti. Some caterers serve sarkarapuratti in feasts. It is not
surewhether they prepare or get from Kerala is not clear.

While writing aboutNampoothiries I recollected about their liking for banana
chips cut to 2 afterslicing horizontally. They call it Upperi.

Sarkarapuratti ismost liked by Nampoothiries. During feasts 2 or three times
sarkapuratti isserved or in large quantities.

DIVINE INFORMATION  PART 80

Respected friends,

While goingthrough one of my external memory device, I came across some good
information stored from websites. I thought ofsharing interesting ones from
them as a series.

In part 80, I amstarting with 295th    item in this posting. Kindly note the
series is a compilation.

Sincerely,

Gopala Krishnan 14-08-21

295 Vasishta  and Ravana

Once Ravanarequested Vasishta to teach the Vedas but the latter did not comply.
Embittered by this refusal,Ravana captured and imprisoned him, not worried
about therepercussions it could create.

Kuvalayaswar, a Kingof Surya Vamsa helped Vasishta by liberating him from
Ravana.

Infuriated, Vasishta cursed Ravana that heand his genre would be obliterated
by the Kings of Surya Vamsa. ( KambaRamayanam - Yudhha Kandam ).

Lord Surya had awife Samgna by name, and through her a son called Yama and a
daughter calledYami or Kalindhi were born.

Samgna unable towithstand the resplendence of Surya requested her friend Chaya
to look afterhim and left on a pilgrimage.

Chaya dressedherself like Samgna and surreptitiously served Surya. In the
process Chaya gave birth to Sanaiswaran( Saneeswaran is not the correct name as
he is not Eshwaran. In Sanskrit, Sanaiswaran means'moving slowly'. Of the nine
Grahas he is the slowest, staying for 2 anda half years in each Rasi before
moving to the next one) and Thapthi, a daughter.

 296 Vasistha and Samvaranan

Samvaranan, a King of Chandra Vamsa, ruled his counrywith Vasishta as his
Raajaguru.Once he handed over the responsibility of the Kingdom to Vasishta and
went tothe forest to do penance. As he was riding in a forest , he saw a Deer
andstarted chasing it.

He reached a lotus pond where beautiful maidens ( apsaras)were playing near
the pond. Surya's daughter Thapthi was also in the group. Both Samvaranan and
Thapthi fell in love instantly.

AsSamvaranan was looking at her with unrestrained passion, he fell off the
horseand fainted.

Thapthi felt sad andher friends took her back home. Meanwhile the Ghandarvas
who were nearby, helped Samvaranan regainconsciousness. Samvaranan love
stricken, returned to the Kingdom. Buthis mind and heart were still with
Thapthi, and so suffered from lack of sleepand hunger.

Vasishta, whoobserved the King's state , through his sensory powers ('Gnana
Dhrishti'),understood the reason for the King's behaviour. By his Yogashakthi,
Vasishtaflew to the chariot of Lord Surya and informed him about their love.

Surya gave his consent happily and sent Thapthi withVasishta. The Sage
arranged for their wedding and blessed them.

Lord Surya blessed his daughter and at a later stageturned her into River
Narmada - which flows from Vindhya mountains towards theWest.

 297 Vasishta  and hisson Sakthi

Vasishta was living with his son Sakthi and his wifeAdhrisyanthi in his
ashram. Oneday when he was away, King Kalmakshapadhar, a descendent of Ishwaku
vamsa, whowas on a hunting trip was passing by sage Vasishta's ashram. Sakthi
came outand both the King and the sages's son waited for the other to respond
out ofego and arrogance. The Kingannoyed by Sakthi's indifference lashed out at
him with a whip. An enragedSakthi, cursed the King to turn into a demon.

Sage Viawamitra whose relationship withVasishta was contentious at that time,
released a demom called Kimkaran in theKing's body.

Kalmakshapadhar in a mood of revenge swallowed Sakthi andhis ninetynine
daughters.

When Vasishta returned to the ashram, he wasapprised about the tragic
incident. The sage grieving for his son, forgot the Dharma Sastras he hadlearnt
and attempted suicide. But his soul did not part with the himand so he lived in
the ashram with his Daughter-in-law Adhrisyanthi.
298 Parasara- Grand son of Vasistha
One day he heard avoice chanting Veda mantras clearly and he was curious to
know from where thesound was originating. Adhrisyanthiinformed him that it was
Sakthi's son growing in her womb, who was chanting themantras.
Vasishta feltalleviated to know that his vamsa had not been destroyed, shed his
suicidalthoughts.
It so happened thatKalmakshapadhar at another time, swallowed Adhrisyanthi.
Vasishta who reachedthe ashram on time, relieved the King of his curse and the
latter got back hisform.

Adhrisyanthi in due course gave birth to a son, whobecame the famous Maharishi
Parasarar.

He had developed an apathy towards the Asuraswho were responsible for his
father's death and wanted to annihilate the wholeAsura vamsa. So in order to
fulfill his vow he performed a Yagna . Many Asurasfell into the Yagna fire and
died.

To mitigate hisanger Vasishta counselled him thus- "My child, Do not harbour
such ager inyour heart. What harm did they do to you’

Your father was destined to die

It was first visit of an elevated saint (Shankaracharya) to Rastrapati Bhavan.
Since President, Dr Kalam wanted to give due honour to the saint, he called me
(I was comptroller in President's House) to his office and asked me the
traditional protocol. I told him, I will receive the saint at the gate and
bring him inside. After few minutes of deep thinking, he asked me "what will
happen if I receive him?'
I said, sir, you will make saint honour above president. He smiled. He didn't
say anything. Then inside the office, I briefed him, "sir, I will bring him
here, put his seat (asan) on this sofa and will request him to sit and
president will continue sitting on his usual sofa chair." He again asked me,
"what will happen if I make him sit on my sofa seat?" I again said sir, you
will make saint's honour above president. Again he smiled and didn't give me
any direction.

After thirty minutes, when saint was to come, few seconds before, to my
surprise, I saw Dr Kalam, standing behind me at the gate. I immediately went
behind. He was there to receive the saint with garland and flowers. We received
the saint, walked through the corridors and straight entered into his office.
When I was spreading Saints seat (tiger skin asan) on the visitors sofa which
we had discussed, he directed me to put the same on his sofa chair. I was
shocked by this simple, humble and great gesture. *He was president Kalam.* We
offered fruits and flower basket to the saint.

After the mulakat (meeting) I asked him the reason behind doing this. He smiled
and said, *”I wanted the sofa seat of the president of India, get blessed by
the saints spiritual power so that who ever sits here later also gets the
Saints blessings".*

I admired my spiritual guru Kalam's these words and said "Sir, you are not only
a scientist but also a *saint in disguise too."* As usual he gave his
meaningful smile.

MUTI- (മുടി) (முடி)

MUTI- (മുടി) (முடி)

 Dear friends,

Yesterday I was seeing ashort show in you tube. The person was talking of how
divinity can be maintainedin home.

One thing he was tellingwas about brooms. Brooms should be well tied and washed
and kept either insouthern side or western side in an East facing home. On no
account, broomsshould be kept on Northern side. While replacing brooms, the old
broom shouldbe discarded.

However nowadays wepurchase more coconut brooms at a time, since availability
at all times cannot betold in my area in Chennai. Regarding Palm flower brooms,
while we purchase newone other is used to clean portico, pathway to entrance
etc. Workers requiresmall length brooms, could be used more efficiently in
compound cleaning. So wediscard old when brooms are more.

Ladies would be combinghair, and fallen hair should be thrown on southern side
of home. Never onEastern side. Actually we throw outside compound on southern
side. On hearingabout hair, I thought I can make a posting about hair.

It is a fashion with manymen growing hair and tie at back. Like women hair
will not grow for men. I haveseen in Tamilnadu for some women even at 40, hair
falls too much. Some thoughtson hair.

Sincerely,

Gopala Krishnan 14-8-21

 1 Hair

MUTI- (മുടി) (முடி). It is one ofthe words having same meaning in both
Malayalam and Tamil languages.

The English translation forMUTI is HAIR.  Increasing Hair growth in headfor
women and dying grey hairs in head are captive advertisements in all the
TVchannels. One may astonish whether so much care is required for Hair.

As age advance above 40, greyinghair and baldness is common with 95% of males.
For women graying and falling of hair starts by about 50.
However there are 5% males– Either they would not get grey hair or they may get
grey hair- but nobaldness. Among women baldness is very rare. There are people
who are allergicto chemical dyes.  They adopt other hairstyles. Now a day hair
transplanting is common for removing baldness.
While one girl attainsmaturity more growth of hair starts. For a boy on
getting maturity not only inhair, in face ,chest and some more body parts hair
grows, but they aredifferent  from hair on the head.

 2. Growing Muti- Kudummi.
With partial haircut andgrowing hair on head called Kudummi was common with men
in Kerala andTamilnadu. In earlier days Kshathrias and Nairs too used to have
Kudummi. Nowkudummi is grown by Brahmins and Nampoothries. Those who have
studied Veda growKudummi.
While I was working inTiruppur for a short period, the owner of the lodge, an
Iyer was growingKudummi. In a casual conversation he told me- Once kanchi
Periyaval advised him- You have studiedVedas, why don’t you grow Kudummi? Then
onwards he is keeping Kudummi.

We can see our sasthrikalsand boys STUDYING VEDAS keeping Kudummi.

There is a saying also, “Chozhiyan Kudummichumma aduma” meaning- there is a
purpose if one simply aggress to somethingothers do or talk.

 3 Trimming hair
Now trimming the hair endhas become a fashion with many girls and women. Some
cut a small length also.Falling hair through neck to front is a fashion and
often putting it back foryoung women.
The eyebrow is an area ofshort hairs above the eye that follows the shape of
the lower margin of thebrow ridges of some mammals. Their main function is to
prevent sweat, water, and other debris from falling down into the eye socket,
but they are alsoimportant to human communication and facial expression.

It is common for people, mainly women to modify their eyebrowsby means of hair
removal and makeup. I could see in soaps grandmotherswith fully white hair, but
eyebrows trimmed.

There would be growth ofhair in armpit on maturity and their growth is
diminished by about 70 for bothmen and women.
4. Jatamuti
Some people develop Jatamuti(Mattered hair) for unknown reasons. If hair is
grown without maintaining it,it may form a jata- cannot separate between hairs.
We cansee jatamuti with sanyasins.  Some ifjata happens go to the temples and
remove it by cutting. By shaving the headtwo or three times starting jata can
be removed.

We can see pictures of LORDSIVA drawn with mattered hair. While GANGA arrived
with force on earth on theprayers of Bhageeratha, Lord Siva hold her on his
head, made her move slowlythrough his mattered Hair. Hence the name Gangadhara
for Lord Siva.

 5. Hair cutting or Mutivettal.

Yester years the haircutting was done by special community people.  Later
barber shops have become common   andnow beauty parlor.

Female children hairswere/are cut to certain period. Ladies hairs were trimmed
in earlier days alsoin the tip for more growth or sometimes after a length.

Older women (need not bewidows) also used to get their hair cropped for
difficulty in maintaining.Anglos Indian women use to cut their hairs commonly.

Among women, if they becomewidow it was a practice to shave hair in yester
