It seems that everything is resolved; it turns out that the wiki was
updated erroneously and the 1MB limit doesn't apply to data URIs:

FireFox can't dig into zip files out of the box. May be there are addons,
that can enable such a behaviour.
Depending on your operating system, your file browser can open and show zip
file content. .. But to do this there have to be the right drivers
installed.
