[tw] Re: Your TWederation! [The official TWederation brainstorm thread]

2016-06-23 Thread RichardWilliamSmith
Hi Mat,

I'm sort of torn on this issue. On the one hand, I want to support the
development efforts of other members of the community and I enjoy thinking
about technical/design issues too. I can fully understand why you would
want to do this.

On the other hand, I think there is probably a better path to pursue
towards these goals, but it's currently much (much, much?) more technically
abstract. I'm talking about ipfs, which has been recently mentioned by
Jeremy also.

I might be totally wrong about this, but my reason for thinking it is that
what you're attempting to do is fundamentally hard. Even if you get it to
work, I don't think it will ever be secure or scalable. I'm happy to
discuss why this might be wrong, though.

I think what ipfs gives us, amongst much else, is the notion of serverless
publishing because everything is essentially published out onto one big
filing system, distributed across the network. My conjecture is that this
basically solves the hard problems of federation.

It is also my belief that TW may prove to be a uniquely interesting tool in
the context of ipfs in general - it may well turn out that we are sitting
on a 'killer app' for a platform that is yet to be fully built.

I hope this doesn't sound negative. It may well be that you will learn
valuable lessons by trying to get 'twederation' to work over http or I
might be altogether wrong and it might be a roaring success, but I hope
you'll take the time to look at ipfs if you haven't already. In my opinion,
this technology or something similar will be the next evolution of the web.

Regards,
Richard

[tw] Re: [TW5] Top Toolbar Plugin Question

2016-06-23 Thread Ton Gerner
Hi reakt...@gmail.com,

The top toolbar was developed with the idea of having all the functionality
of the sidebar while the sidebar is hidden (there is even a button that can
open the total sidebar as a separate tiddler). Therefore I choose to always
show the toolbar which sounded logical to me.

When you want to try to toggle the present top toolbar on/off you have to
keep the following in mind:

1) The button to toggle the toolbar has to be visible (it can't be part of
the top toolbar!); may be in the Top Right Bar, next to the toggle sidebar
button.

2) That button needs to toggle the Toolbar plugin on/off or it needs to
toggle the tag $:/tags/TopLeftBar from all buttons simultaneously on/off;
the easiest way would be to tag all buttons with a special tag, so the the
buttons can be 'found' to reapply the tag $:/tags/TopLeftBar.

3) That button needs to toggle the toolbar CSS - like background color -
on/off as well.

Cheers,

Ton

[tw] Re: Using tiddlywiki colours within an SVG

2016-06-23 Thread BJ
Hi Stuart,
there is more than one way of using svg in tiddlywiki.
Motovun Jack.svg is an image tiddler - type image/svg+xml.
you could make a copy of this tiddler and remove the type, the and
tags, then you should be able to use macros for the colour

all the best

[tw] Your TWederation! [The official TWederation brainstorm thread]

2016-06-23 Thread Mat
In another thread the topic of TWederation came up and the fact that it all
is still very fuzzy. *What the heck IS it?! -* A justified question and
I've put much thought into various concepts for it, but instead of letting
my own fantasy set artificial limits for what it can be, let's have a joint
brainstorm!

There are technical limitations and the that will be most(?) obvious when
we do kick off is that TWederation is based on *fetching* of tiddlers.
Contrary to servers, tiddlers cannot be fed/pushed to others but tiddlers
must instead be actively "leeched".

So... I ask the good people; what does this enable? Why? Why not? What's
better than... what? Who? How BAD? In which way does that have to do with
beauty? Isn't that impossible? Fetch webpage? Encryption. Context, does
that change the meaning? Will be created yesterday. Webmail. Threading.
Ads? Parallel threading. Who cares about technical limitations!!! Block
inline injection foobar? Stylesheet hangout? Signal! Tikky Widdly.

...you tell us. For fun. That's how ideas are born.

Re: [tw] Re: Google Groups is a somewhat UNWIELDY instrument ....

2016-06-23 Thread Ákos Szederjei
I looked at the alternatives for GoogleGroups for another group, but
there is not much to choose from.

YahooGroups is the only "commercial but free" solution, but no one know
it's future. No point to move there.

If one would like to host one's own GroupServer
(http://groupserver.org/) comes to closest to GoogleGroups capabilities.
I am not sure that is so much better than GoogleGroups, besides being
open source and all.

The rest are mostly mailing list only solution (no web interface) programs.

I came to the same conclusion that GoogleGroups is not particularly
exciting, but there I found nothing better either.

[tw] Using tiddlywiki colours within an SVG

Is there a way to get an SVG, such as Motovun Jack.svg to use the default

I work with a pdf that needs to accommodate palette changes and when the

Re: [tw] [TW5] Responsive modal

2016-06-23 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Magnus

I’m afraid that the problem is that the CSS lightbox relies on setting the
location hash of the url (the part after the #), and that clashes with
TiddlyWiki’s use of the location hash to open tiddlers. Sadly, I don’t see an
easy way around the issue.

Best wishes

Jeremy

[tw] Re: [TW5] make the rendered image of the img command a link to open the image in new tab

2016-06-23 Thread Evolena
Let's me try to explain step by step:

<$button class="tc-btn-invisible tc-thumbnail-image">
...

The WidgetButton creates a button.
The "class" attribute defines how it looks like: "tc-btn-invisible" removes
the grey box of classic buttons, and "tc-thumbnail-image" is a facility to
style the image (this class is used for the Thumbnail macro
that you can see in action in
the HelloThere tiddler of tiddlywiki.com).

<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-modal" $param="template/picture"
url="./images/Blurry%2520Lawn.jpg"/>
The SendMessage action widget
 allows the button to
trigger an action by sending a message (and this is why we used a button
widget: it's currently the only element taht can trigger an action widget),
here "tm-modal " to
open a modal window. This message can take parameters:
- "$param" is the title of the displayed tiddler. As we don't have tiddlers
for our images, I use a template tiddler
: "template/picture". It acts as a
skeleton for the content of the modal.
- "url" is a variable (or parameter) for the template

The template contains:
So the modal will display an image, whose url is the variable set
previously in the message "tm-modal".
The ImageWidget is used because
the source is not already defined, the [img[]] syntax doesn't work with
variables.

Finally
displays the "label" of the button, here an image. It is exactly what you
had at the beginong, but with an ImageWidget instead of [img[]] (which
could work here).

If you want to create a macro, you would have to replace the name of the
image with a parameter:

\define macro-image(url)
<$button class="tc-btn-invisible tc-thumbnail-image">
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-modal" $param="template/picture" url=
"$url$"/>

And then use it with
<>
