[tw5] Re: Widgets for Dummies

2019-02-17 Thread S. S.
This is probably an accurate way of explaining the limitations:

WikiText can be used as an *attribute* *value* of Widgets, but neither
Widgets nor WikiText can be used as a *parameter* *value* of a WikiText
macro.

... but it would be almost impossible for a beginner to understand. That is
something to be avoided.

I don't know how to phrase it in a simpler way.

Maybe just a more general warning of some sort - without being too specific
- and then a link to a NEW (non-beginner) tiddler that explains it with
some examples.

So I still need help with how to phrase that General Warning.

Thanks

[tw5] Re: Quinoid v0.0.6alpha

2019-02-17 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
Hi Tony,

Are you on a data plan or WiFi? When you normally open tiddlywiki.com/empty
in your browser, how long does it take?

I'm wondering if some combination of a data plan and/or your remoteness
from the main TW site may slow things down enough that the items don't
immediately appear on your list. Unfortunately, if you navigated away from
Q in the mean time, then it may not know how to add the download to the
main list. I might have to prioritized persistence of the download manager.

empty-20190218014-17-29.html and empty-20190218014-17-18.html would have
been the items downloaded. When you view them in your browser, are they OK?

TIDDLYWIKISTUB7383952824269779 is a stub file typically created when you
navigated via the System explorer. I don't think it's the empty file unless
it was created when you navigated with the system explorer. In general, you
shouldn't be seeing the stub file. The stub files are temporary and get
erased when the app reboots. Too hard to diagnose at a distance ;-(

Just to confirm, you say the two empties downloaded to your *internal*
download directory? Do you have a SD card, and is it formatted as external
or internal memory (Starting 7 (?) you have to tell Android whether you
want your card to be formatted as though internal space -- giving more
space for apps -- or as external space -- giving more space for shared
MP3s, photos, etc.).

I might be able to manage swipe left to leave some day, but swiping from
the list into the browser would be much more challenging.

Thanks!

[tw5] Re: Quinoid v0.0.6alpha

2019-02-17 Thread TonyM
Mark,

Reviewing now quinoid-v0-0-6-190217a on Android 8.0.0

Selecting Download tesat had no feedback so I soon had 2 downloading in the
background. Canceled one in the download manager, it is slow (but thats ok).

Found in the internal memory Download TW-files two empty files
empty-20190218014-17-29.html
empty-20190218014-17-18.html

of 2.17MB in size

Oddly I went to use back to close quinoid and I had to press three times
before it exited.

   - No change to the wiki list, + and browsed to Internal > Downloads and
TW-Files and opened one of the empty files,
   - Tap to open from list opens my two existing items and a blank screen,
   - swipe left to open one of my existing wikis, has a 1-3sec display or
white, before it displays (unlike previously) - I think this is an artifact
of the mobile view, material theme, sidebar open.
   - Empty wiki not appearing after time, but is now in list as
   TIDDLYWIKISTUB738395282426977923.html
   - New download test whilst staying on wiki list screen (will report
   later)
   - Will try geo-location soon

*Question*

Is there any reason we can't swipe left back to the Quinoid list, and
arguably swipe right to load/(re)view the open wikis? It may be a little
more intuitive.

Regards
Tony

[tw5] Re: Quinoid v0.0.6alpha

2019-02-17 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki

Probably quinoid-v0-0-6-190217a.apk deserves to be in it's own release, but
there's a lot that isn't settled yet. It has a new look, with "System
Explorer" now activated through the "+" icon and "File Explorer" activated
though the overflow menu. On the new overflow menu is also a download
option, that is meant to download an empty TW from tiddlywiki.com. This is
in preparation for offering users the chance to quickly load up on
well-known and crafted TW files.

It's testing on the download functionality that interests me. I'm only able
to test through emulators at the moment, and they give me inconsistent
information on multiple levels. One emulator works great. Another gives the
"OK", but then says there's something wrong with the file system, and then
chooses to put the file somewhere else and with a nonsensical name.

What I'm trying to do is to save to a sub-directory of the user's *external
*download directory. This way the user can be in charge of deleting and
cleaning up. If people are willing to test, they should have an android
with an external card, preferably with an existing "Download" directory.
After running the download menu option, the new item should appear in your
browse list. Unfortunately, at least on one emulator, it's possible that it
will instead write to the download directory of the internal card, using a
name that won't even look like a standard html file name. I don't know if
this is for real, or just an anomaly of the emulator.

If you have a slow connection and have to log out of quinoid before the
download is complete, then it's possible that the download will complete
later but not appear in your list. In my tests, with WiFi, this wasn't a
problem as the download was almost instantaneous. There's a bunch more
coding I would have to do to prevent the non-listed download situation. But
first I want to know how well the downloading works at all. It's another
question whether I should prevent downloads except when connected to WiFi.
Possibly a user configuration.

@Tony -- I added some additional geo permissions to the v0.0.6 update.
Curious if that made your geo-json file work any better. These additional
permissions may be why TT was getting additional quizzing by the
PlayProtect system.

Thanks everyone -- be sure to backup and take precautions if you try the
release!

[tw5] Re: Disqus (guest comments) for TiddlyWiki: comming soon

2019-02-17 Thread TonyM
Bimlas,

It is quite complex and there are a lot of options for comment systems, of
interest to me so far in my research is the
*https://intensedebate.com/features* which is part of
https://automattic.com/ it has lots of integrations with other platforms,
twitter, WordPress, Joomla, tumblr, blogger and more, and seems truly open
source. I can't yet find if there are any hosting costs, but it appears not.

This may be a great candidate for tiddlywiki inclusion. I have started
looking at this and have attached a tiddler that is documenting the
install. Primarily it is javascript for the comments. Looks like it should
be easy, but at present I do not know how to integrate it with tiddlywiki.

[tw5] Re: [TW5] Bob and BobEXE version 1.2.0 Wibbly Wobbly

2019-02-17 Thread Jed Carty
The tiddlyweb error is probably because there is a .tid version of the
tiddlyweb plugin in the tiddlers folder. It happens sometimes and I haven't
gotten around to publishing the changes I made to keep that from being a
problem.

The save button no longer saves a single file copy because people said it
was confusing that they could save a single file copy that way that wasn't
the same as the copy served by Bob. If you want a single file copy you can
go to the control panel and under the Bob Settings tab there is a 'Download
Single File Version' button, that downloads a single file version with the
Bob plugins stripped out because they don't do anything for a singe file
wiki.

If you want to customise how the download works there is documentation for
it in the Bob Documentation tab, look at the ActionDownloadWiki part.

The problem about not being able to build a wiki without the tiddlyweb
plugin is strange. The easiest thing to check is that there may be a comma
error in the tiddlywiki.info file, next make sure that in the
tiddlywiki.info file under the build key 'index' is listed. Past that I
don't know, I am not very familiar with that part of the build process.

[tw5] Removing chars from tiddler title: issue with tiddler overwritting

2019-02-17 Thread Mohammad
The below code is developed to remove n characters from the beginning of a
tiddler title.

Test only on https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease/

*Title: macro/remchars*
*Tag: $:/tags/Macro*
\define remove-from-begining-tiltle-bulk(myfilter, n:"0")
<$list filter="[<__n__>] -0" variable=null>
<$list filter=<<__myfilter__>> variable="item">
<$list filter="""[split[]rest[$n$]join[]]""" variable="newTitle">
<$list filter="[] -[has[title]] -[[]]" variable="ignore">
  <$action-setfield $tiddler=<> title=<> />
  <$action-deletetiddler $tiddler=<> />

\end

Assume you have three tiddlers like below, both tagged with xx

a1
b1
cd

Then call the macro as below

Test
<$button> Do it
<>

The above code should detect that removing first char will overwrite a1, b1 and
so as four list widget in the code (line 5)
is responsible to prevent this!! seems it *FAILS *to do the job!
It overwrites a1 and b1 and produces tiddler 1.

What is going wrong here?

Hmmm. I have also run into the "syncer-browser-tiddlyweb" errors.

I also noted that at some point I stopped being able to save local
single-file copies of the wiki by clicking normal checkmark/save button.

But if I don't have `tiddlywiki/tiddlyweb` in my tiddlywiki.info file, I
can't just use node to --build an index.html...

So something here isn't working right. I just don't know if I made a

[tw5] Re: Applying tags to a list of tiddlers?

2019-02-17 Thread Jed Carty

As an explanation of what is going on (node the added button, this doesn't do
anything with the button):

<$button>

Add tags

<$list filter=<>>
<$fieldmangler>
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-add-tag" $param=<<__newTag__>> />

The list widget makes a list, one way to think about it is as iterating over a
loop, but if you are familiar with some programming it is more accurately list
comprehension similar to python (I think also erlang and haskell, it has been a
while. Many other languages probably use the same concept).

So a possibly way too detailed description of the list widget:

The filter creates a list of titles

The template between the opening and closing tags for the $list widget is
applied to each title returned by the filter

The results are output in the same order as the titles in the list

The $fieldmangler widget is magic, it is mostly left over from a previous
version of how we thought tiddlywiki was going to work. Mostly it lets you add
tags without overwriting the tags field. This is the only time when it is
required or that there isn't a simpler way to do it. The magic is that it lets
you edit fields, but that was before the action widgets became the main tool
for changing tiddlers so it is less useful now.

The $action-sendmessage widget is a way that the older message-based changes to
the wiki are used with the newer action widgets. It was a more conceptually
complex system, I suggest that you just accept the magic for now and come back
to that part later. Just treat the combination of $fieldmangler and
$action-setfield widgets in this context like an action widget that lets you
add a tag to a tiddler.

Then, if you wrap that whole thing in a button, the result is a button that
activates a list of action widgets, each action widget adds a tag to one
tiddler.

Hopefully that is understandable and not too rambling.

Re: [tw5] Re: Applying tags to a list of tiddlers?

2019-02-17 Thread Brian Theado
Stefano,

I think the action-listops widget (
https://tiddlywiki.com/#ActionListopsWidget) will help you. It can be used
to manipulate any tiddler field which is used as a list. The tags field is
used as a list so it should be able to help.

For performing the operation on multiple tiddlers, you would need to put
the action-listops inside a list widget (since it only operates on a single
tiddler).

I found the documentation a little confusing. Maybe this will help you:

   - Use the $filter attribute to replace the field contents with the
   result of $filter
   - Use the $subfilter attribute to transform the current field contents
   - Use the $tags attribute as shorthand for $subfilter + $field=tags

Here is a real world example using this widget:
https://github.com/btheado/tw-ftlist/blob/master/src/plugins/btheado/ftlist/action-macros.tid

I've seen some responses recommending the use of tm-add-tag widget message.
I'm not really sure in what cases tm-add-tag is better than action-listops
or vice versa.

Re: [tw5] Re: Applying tags to a list of tiddlers?

2019-02-17 Thread Mohammad
Hi Stefano,
This is Mohammad the Commander author!

Here is for you, a macro to add many tags you like to a list of tiddlers as
batch operation.

\define add-new-tag-bulk(filter, newTags)
<$list filter="$filter$" >
<$list filter="[enlist<__newTags__>]" variable="itemTag">
<$fieldmangler>
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-add-tag" $param=<> />

\end

To test, create a tiddler in Tiddlywiki.com
name it as you like and tagged it as $:/tags/Macro

In another tiddler test it as below

<$button> do
<$macrocall $name="add-new-tag-bulk"
filter="[tag[About]]"
newTags="bb cc dd [[mytag with space]]"

/>

This changes the tags of all tiddlers tagged with About to
bb, cc, dd and "tag with space".

Hopefully these features will be available in Commander.

Cheers
Mohammad

Are we still talking about rolling our own dates?

I think 12 would work almost everywhere (there might be some fringe cases).

Yes a single minute can make a difference for bills, taxes, assignments.
Which is why the deadline time is often at midnight, so there's a great
deal of overlap with actual waking hours. What annoys me is a certain
cloud-based service that resets subscriptions per a different timezone,
even though I'm in the same timezone as the corporate office. Apparently
wherever the server is located becomes the time standard.

I don't know why I didn't make them links before, or at least add that as

Those are one of the many things I need to update to use some of the newer

The change you want is pretty simple to make, I will try see about updating

A comment on default SORT ORDER of the "Items Found" ...

IF you, say, delete something and then re-create it the current list order
gives the kind of result above, that is not intuitive

Would the default sort order better be "sortan" so that order of naming
comes first?

I think its worth mentioning there are TWO free versions of Disqus.

The Basic and Plus Plan (if you low volume and don't carry other ads).

They differ in how they are configured. Bit more info from here:

Disqus is very well integrated in your wiki example.

IMO, for people who need to communicate its good & easy!

Great job you did IMO!

Re: [tw5] Tinka and TW 5.1.19+ Issue

2019-02-17 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Ciao Andreas

I don't think to give energy to a workaround when the .20 pre-release is
there already that appears to solve the issue in .19 is worth the effort.

All that is needed, I think, is users know. So announcement about that
might be worth it?

My two cents
Best wishes

Re: [tw5] Tinka and TW 5.1.19+ Issue

2019-02-17 Thread 'Andreas Hahn' via TiddlyWiki

Dear Mohammad,

I'm currently debating whether or not its even worth fixing it, since
the whole issue seems to be caused by a bug in TW itself, which is
already fixed for the upcoming 5.1.20 (see [1]). So just waiting means
that things will repair themselves. There is a way to create a
workaround for older versions, but it would be unfortunate to have that
be in widespread use.

Did anyone run into any issues in the 5.1.20 prerelease?

/Andreas

That's strange, it is supposed to work. Here's an example from the TW5 repo
where the tiddlers folder is organised into subfolders:

[tw5] Is it possible to load and save tiddlers from subfolders?

2019-02-17 Thread talha131

I am using TW from nodejs. I run this command to serve TW via http.

tiddlywiki tw-scripts-demo --listen port=8081

Currently I have around 600 individual .tid files inside my tiddlers/
folder. To improve organization of tiddlers, I want to place related
tiddlers inside folders. Say all tiddlers on C++ go into Cpp folder and all
tiddlers on Python go into Python folder.

But I observe that tiddlywiki does not load tiddlers from the subfolder.

How do I make tiddlywiki load tiddlers from the subfolders and save them
back?

Organizing tiddlers into subfolders is helpful if I want to use an external
tool to edit my tiddlers. For example, it would be easier to find a tiddler
on Github and edit it there if they are organized into folders.

[tw5] Re: Way to filter edited shadow tiddlers?

2019-02-17 Thread barrowgloom
Instead of making my own tiddler for such, I link to (or copy the code of)
the Number of overridden shadow tiddlers: in ControlPanel/Basic tab (if
you're putting into another tiddler). Link is
$:/core/ui/ControlPanel/Info (system tiddler don't edit)
but I couldn't find alink to the exact line like other entries in Control
Panel have and I can't rmember if I was able to transclude just that line.
It has a magnifying glass/search icon that brings up Advanced Search set to
the filter Jeremy mentioned.

I don't know if that would work for what you're doing though.
