[tw] Re: [not TW] Noteworthy UI for Personal Knowledge Base

2016-05-24 Thread Jed Carty
This seems like an interesting idea, but I think that it is way too
cluttered to be useful. I really like it as a conceptual demo or an art
project though. Maybe if we try rotation or zooming to give a visual
metaphor for the space, since I think he has something like 27 dimensions
there (Art, Interface, Science, etc. and then project, wikipedia, etc. and
the time line on top of that). I think a better presentation would be
projecting only the subspace defined by the filters onto two dimensions
instead of always projecting the entire space but only showing the points
that fit the filters.

The zoom lens thing is very visually confusing for me but I think that with
a bit of tweaking it could be an interesting way of displaying
relationships between different data sources.

True knowledge is to know how to find out! Thank you.

So many examples to look at. I was able to view the examples dated after
2012 in Firefox. Maybe I do not understand but would it not be very time
consuming to use that leaving less time to collect knowledge?

Very interesting, Mat - thanks for sharing.

I looked and failed to find anything 'expensive' about it and the fact that
it doesn't work on Firefox at the moment would appear to be a bug.

The guy who made it has his own company - http://moebio.com/
His software is released open source
- http://moebiolabs.github.io/moebio_framework/

"Moebio Framework is designed for modern browsers. Including recent
> versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari."

His 'personal knowledge base' uses a variety of this visualisation
- http://moebio.com/research/sevensets/ along with other effects,
his bookmarks are organised here - http://del.icio.us/moebio. Perhaps he is
inadvertently using an older version of his own libraries which is broken
on Firefox.

Anyhow, I'm sure it's *theoretically* possible to use this to visualise
Tiddlers.

Thanks again, Mat.

Richard

Thanks Birthe, that's very flattering.

The TWaddle situation is a bit embarassing; I've actually kept on writing
posts... actually a lot(!) but only some make it to "ready-for-publish"
(also quite a few by now)... BUT those are still not published because the
*updating
procedure* is too much hassle;

I do my editing in a super secret admin TWaddle (also on tiddlyspot). The
admin version doesn't only contain unpublished articles but also admin
tools and a different layout etc. There is unfortunately currently no way
to directly save a filtered version of a tiddlyspot to another tiddlyspot,
i.e a filtrered admin version to the public tiddlyspot. *If that worked,
I'd publish all the time*.

Instead what I'm forced to do is to save a filtered version to a local
file. Then upload this file to the public TWaddle site. But there is always
the need to check that I don't accidentaly save to the wrong place and that
it worked out, or I forgot to set the password so there was yet another
copy saved locally, etc etc. And if I made a mistake I might have to redo
it all. So it's just IFFY and no fun. So I write... for the black
cyberspace.

I have attempted to bring this need to attention (in more general terms,
not just about my case) e.g #1755
 and here
 -
please do chime in. If it was solved it would make tiddlyspot suitable for,
well, blogs in the more powerful sense.

That's good to hear. I think it's worth considering how much joy and value
TW brings to one self and that it therefore is a good deed to tell others
about TW. This is also beneficial for the TW project itself. Bigger

 WITH TW
(using TheBrain's ability to open applications & pages). TheBrain gives me
a visual overview. The TWs the data precisely organized.

Regarding TW, it is SO flexible that it gets overlooked in listings like
http://tinyurl.com/hpztq2e. If you take those exemplars, different
implementations of TW are able to do most of what they only individually
can.

The PROMOTION of TW is one of its WORST failings IMO.
