[tw5] Re: How to make a tree structure of the notes?

2021-06-30 Thread TW Tones
Imleg,

As others have shown you it is easy to make *tree structures* in
tiddlywiki, in fact tiddlywiki allows you to show *many different
structures;* lists, trees, networks and much more.

Using the Table of Contents macros is the first one most
use https://tiddlywiki.com/#TableOfContents and there are various forms

   - You can use any tag with the TOC macros
   - Then in each tiddler simply use the New Here button to create new
   children

If you want to get sophisticated you can make your own macros to list
trees, Marios TocP plugin or even Bimlas's kin filter.

Before I finish, systems tiddlers use the "\" to name tiddlers and the tree
macro

will generate a tree from them.

I can share more but lets learn more about what you need.

You can use my tocP plugin, which allows you to create a TOC based on a
"parent" field .. where "parent" is just a convention. You can use any
field name you want. ... so you can use tabs for "overall grouping" and
create different trees with tocP

See. https://wikilabs.github.io/editions/tocP/

Have fun!

This is a really cool idea! I don't think I've seen this one before, I'll
have to give it a try.

What Soren said, but in TW you can also make a tree based on title
structure like:

Dutch/grammar/Conjunctions
Dutch/grammar/Pronouns
Dutch/reference/ANW

and then display it with the tree macro. My current note taking system uses
tags for the big "trunk" picture and then uses titles for the finer, "leaf"
structure so as not to create excess tags.

If you use something like Stroll, then you are also effectively creating a
tree structure based on *links* .

[tw5] Re: How to make a tree structure of the notes?

2021-06-30 Thread Soren Bjornstad
In TiddlyWiki, you can create a tree structure with tags (TW documentation
; Grok TiddlyWiki
). Then you can make a table of
contents to display them (TW documentation
;

Grok TiddlyWiki

).

I would caution that trying to organize your whole wiki into a tree
structure can be limiting. Hierarchies where everything goes in one place
are nice and orderly, but they make it harder to reuse ideas in different
contexts. So I tend to prefer linking as a primary means of organizing
content, and then creating smaller clusters of tree-structured notes within
the wiki where needed.
