This is one well documented example of an earlier unintentional jamming
incident.

Nigel-
I remember that event. This issue I'm remotely dealing with now seems to be
limited to a specific local
area bounded by a few km. So local QRM is possible. On Saturday the techs
will install all new GPS antennas with
integrated band-pass filters.
Conf call on Saturday night at 6pm my
Hi Brian:
Would you please let me know which antennas they will be using and if
this solves the problem?
Thanks,
Ron

We have about 25 different GPSDOs running from four cheap antennae on the roof
in Los Gatos right next to Hwy 17, and have not noted any unusual outages at
all, even during the recent solar flare.
I guess any truckers with jammers on hwy 17 pass by so fast we don't notice
anything.

Silver solder has a higher melting temperature so make sure you adjust your
soldering iron to the right temperature otherwise you will just make another
cold joint.
Also wick all the old solder before making a new joint with different solder.

Brian,
I have four GPSDO systems running and logging on a hill West of Redwood
City with a view of the South Bay. Let me know if I can help.

The filters won't help with intentional on-frequency jamming. I assume the
filters are there to reduce the effect of out of band signals on the AGC. (As
the hams say, desense.)
It seems to me a good market for next generation GPSs is spoof and/or RFI
detection.

I can't guarantee anything, but I'd be surprised if Fluxclene didn't
do the trick:

Thanks I'll give it a try.
Also try some naptha (sold as lighter fluid, or as a product called
Goof-Off.)

Chuck,
Got two of these guys, the B and the C. The C is the desirable one,
50ohms, but you will pay about three times the price. Use the adapter, it's
$16 from the link below, it just isn't worth taking apart. Also, you will
need a 50ohm BNC feed thru termination, then set the front panel
It is absolutely trivial to put a BNC on the A and well worth it.

One less connector interface to worry about, and less risk of getting the cable
tangled up and breaking the adapter.
And it looks good.
The 3586 Option 003 has the same
For what it's worth, I was at Fair Radio in Lima, OH on Thursday, and they
had three of the 600 ohm 'B' models on the floor. Don't know the condition
or the asking price, but if you are interested you should be able to get the
contact info via Google. They have had these boxes for quite a while as
Fair Radio is perfectly happy to have something sit there for decades figuring
they'll get their price eventually.
In this case they want $750 for them:

I've been there a few times with a wad of cash and couldn't get them to move
Sorry for the triplicate message before, it looks like my new shiny phone
is sending messages before I am finished...
The 3586 is a very nice machine. Make sure you have Option 003 if you get
an A or a B and you intend to use it for voice or digital data that
requires 3kHz bandwidth.
