Ed, et al, I was just cleaning up the workbench and this gave me time to reflect of the FRK repair. I'd just like to say thanks for your help and Guidance Ed, without it, I probably would have got there in the end but I would have not been as aware of why and how I fixed it. What I mean is, I

Theory behind Ytterbium-based optical lattice clocks have been mentioned on this list before[1] but these results were new so I thought I'd share them. NIST released a paper[2] (link to PDF[3] on the right side on arxiv) a week ago on results from two optical lattice clocks[4] with impressive

Just remember a lot of the Ytterbium comes from Australia, Jay ;) According to Wikipedia, The optical clock based on it is exact to 17 digits after the decimal point! I hope that doesn't mean it is time to trade my HP 5370B in shortly... How do they measure down to these resolutions?

A retraction, it was not necessary to run efc_comp to get the table to fill. I know because one of the banana plugs that doesn't fit properly, that was going from the bench supply to the Z3815A fell out today during bench clean-up. Alas, the efc table was empty on restart. However, no

Hi Ed, Just an update, I replaced the Triac (a 2N6343, no less) with a garden variety I had in my spares. I checked most of the active and passive components and it all checked out. I mean this is one simple PSU - using a 555 timer as oscillator... Anyway, with bated breath I plugged it in.

Hi Chuck: The Western Union Self Winding Clock Co. clocks that were used in radio stations had second hands, unlike the prior clocks that were used in banks, railroad stations, etc. that only had hour and minute hands. See figures 4 and 6 at the top of the page:
