In Tomcat 3.2.x you can specify which directory
you want tomcat to pick up your servlet.
In the distribution server.xml for instance:
states that the servlets/jsp pages are found under
$TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/examples.
So you can create your own context:

when I type http://127.0.0.1/path to a servlet, I get the page couldn't be

Ultraedit is a good editor for Windows. I use emacs on Windows for all of my
editing, but there are lots of other ones you can

What are you trying to open
can anyone suggest any good books or sites where I can find out more about
tomcat and setting /configuring it

You can not rely on any directory being the default directory.
Thats why the API specifies the directories
WEB-INF.classes, WEB-INF.lib to be used for class and jar files
in web applications.
You should study the way the Tomcat examples are organized, especially
the web.xml file. You should al
