I had a similar requirement in my app... We had a two-hour window per
day when the app was unavailable because background tasks were
processing. The server was still up, and so was the app technically,
but it was not available.
I wrote a filter to take care of this. I had a flag in

I have two environments with the same mysql DB, both running the same war on
tomcat 5.0 and I have a problem which I can only think may lie in my JSP
taglib and its extra info.
Essentially I call a tag three times in the same page, and depending on
taglib arguments the tag should display data

I'm curious how folks handle letting users know that their webapp is
down when doing maintenance.
We have an alternate httpd.conf file for Apache that is configured to send
everybody to site down come back later
(I sent this a couple of hours ago but never saw it come back - I suspect

We've been monitoring our old Tomcat4 servers with BigBrother. It just
watches TCP port 8009 by sending a ping every 130 seconds. This has
been working for us. If Tomcat starts taking a nose dive, it will
close 8009 and BigBrother

I agree with you that I have to change my oracle encoding, and everything will
work fine,
but it is not easy to change the configuration of oracle in my company, cause
we are upgrading an old system, and cause we are in an intermediat stage, I

I'm upgrading tomcat from 5.0.28 to 5.5.9 and I'm getting a class not
found error for org.apache.catalina.logger.FileLogger In 5.0.28, this
class was in the catalina jar, but it's not in 5.5.9. Is there
something else I need to download? Or some setting I need to change?

I try use this parameter but receive errors after startup of service Apache
Tomcat with the message in event viewer of windows2000: The Apache Tomcat

Filters work great for this. Also, if you have a cluster, you probably
have a load balancer in front of the cluster. If you do, then you could
have the load balancer direct all your traffic to a server that runs
Apache and only served up a 'Sorry the site is down' page. When the
site is back up

(which seems pretty static).

i tried for 2 days to get this running but i always get errors.
I did map a NIS (yellow page) password file to a JNDI Realm. This part wen
quite well as far as i could tell.
To authenticate users i need the realm to check against the encrypted password

As it turns out, catalina.bat runs on the client JVM and service.bat
runs on the server JVM. By removing the -server options from
service.bat, we were able to get the service to install and run
correctly.
