Transport-guarantee problem with 4.1.18

2003-01-08 Thread Peter Lee
I asked this earlier, but I still got problems with it. I upgraded to 4.1.18, but I
got
some problems with security constraints.

I have applied a security constraint on a particular url pattern. Only
certain users with a special rolename can access that link. The data
transportation is also secure, therefore I put in a transport-guarantee in web.xml

user-data-constraint
  transport-guaranteeCONFIDENTIAL/transport-guarantee
/user-data-constraint

It used to work but now the page does not load with v4.1.18.
I got a blank page instead of a login page.
Is SSL implemented differently v4.1.18 that prevents my application
from working like before?
I think it has to do with rolenames. I put in the needed role in tomcat-user.xml
already. Did I miss something?

Is there any documentation on tomcat v4.1.18 SSL security stuff?

Here is my security constraint in web.xml:

J CONSORTIUM MAKES REFERENCE SOURCE FOR JEFF GENERATOR AND
DUMPER PUBLICLY AVAILABLE

J Consortium has made publicly available a generator and dumper
for the ISO/IEC 20970 standard, JEFF, a ready-to-execute format
for object-oriented programs and especially for Java programs. It
is the first ISO standard based on Java technology. In order to
include the widest community possible in a public evaluation of
JEFF, the Consortium is providing downloadable versions of both
the source code and binaries at
http://www.j-consortium.org/jeffwg/index.shtml

The generator and dumper are the result of the Consortium's
June 2002 Request for Proposal. After careful evaluation, the
Consortium awarded the contract to Silicomp, a company that has
contributed to the specification of JEFF and has recognized
experience in developing JEFF-based tools. The selected generator
is written in the Java language and uses Java libraries in a
way that makes this generator particularly suited
for on-device embedding.

More information on JEFF is available from the JEFF Working
Group. The JEFF Generator and Dumper sources and binaries,
as well as presentations of JEFF can be freely downloaded
from the group's Web site at
http://www.j-consortium.org/jeffwg/index.shtml.

To purchase the standard specification in electronic format
for $80 or as a hardcopy for $90, visit the ANSI Web site at
http://www.ansi.org/public/std_info.html.

SSL Connector port problems

2002-11-19 Thread Peter Lee

I changed the HTTP Connector port from 8080 to 80
Then I uncommented the SSL Connector section and changed the
SSL port from 8443 to 433
These are supposed to be well-known ports. But how come after I
made the changes, Tomcat just refused to
start? I am on the Win2000 platform.

 Those ports you mentioned are privileged ports, I think you can only use
 them if you have ROOT rights (UNIX) or admin rights (Windoze NT/2000), if
 you don't have root rights I don´t think Tomcat can bind to a privileged
 port. Do you start Tomcat as ROOT?

How does servlets know it is a page refresh?

2002-11-15 Thread Peter Lee

I have some servlets serving html pages from the servlet engine.
suppose the user click the refresh button of the browser. How
does the servlet know that the user wants a refresh of the page?

My servlet needs to know if it is a refresh since if it processes the
same request twice in a row, it may produce unexpected results
by the issuing the same comand twice.

Servlet returns blank html page

2002-11-09 Thread Peter Lee

I have this web page on which I clicked the web link:
   http://localhost:8080/example/servlet/MyServlet

I have MyServlet.java compiled and MyServlet.class is in the
WEB-INF\classes folder.

I am expecting a html page generate by the servlet,
but all I got was a blank page. Whats is incorrect?

Here is the servlet:

import java.io.*;
import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;

public class MyServlet extends HttpServlet {

  public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse
resp)
  throws IOException, ServletException
  {

resp.setContentType(text/html);
PrintWriter out = resp.getWriter();

out.println(HTMLHEADTITLEMy Page/TITLE/HEAD);
out.println(BODY);
out.println(P);

out.println(test);

out.println(/P);
out.println(/BODY/HTML);
out.flush();

  }

  public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse
resp) throws ServletException, java.io.IOException
  {
doGet(req,resp);
  }

}

 your batch file must be like that
 restart.bat
 call %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\shutdown.bat
 call %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup.bat
 if it doesn't work you may set a delay between the 2 commands

What is the command for setting the delay in a Windows batch file?
I used delay but it didn't work.
Thanks

Invoker servlet mapping

I downloaded the hotfix for disabling the invoker servlet.
Inside the web.xml, the invoker servlet mapping was not

Is the hotfix supposed to disable it or just work around it?

RE: Servlets deployment directory location

2002-10-29 Thread Peter Lee

Hi,

Suppose I have this servlet

\WEBAPPS\ROOT\WEB-INF\CLASSES\HelloServlet

for versions 4.0.6 and before , I could use
http://localhost:8080/servlet/HelloServlet;

but now under 4.1.12, it is no longer working. It just cannot find it at
all. However, normal HTML pages can still be accessed just like
before.

I am using Win98 and Win2000, so I do not jave symbolic links.

Also, for versions 4.0.6 and before, to access the Tomcat
homepage I could use http://localhost:8080;, which no longer
works for me with 4.1.12 on Win98 (but it works on Win2000)

Do I need to change something in the deployment desctiptors so
that I can find the servlets?

Thanks

 Hi,
 The WEB-INF/classes and WEB-INF/lib directories are where you can deploy
 servlets and other compiled Java things for your web application. This
 is not a tomcat-specific structure, it's part of the Servlet
 Specification. And it hasn't changed from tomcat 4.0 to 4.1.

 However, some other things that have changed between the above releases
 may be giving you the illusion the WEB-INF/classes is ignored. For
 example, some symbolic linking that used to be allowed isn't allowed
 anymore.

 Do you have any such symbolic links under WEB-INF? What kind of error
 messages are you getting?
