We have learned a lot about BOG antennas thanks to research by Luis,
IV3PRK/HC1PF.
The initals BOG was for Beverage On Ground. He found that it did not function
as a Beverage when on the ground, but the pattern was better, noise generally
lower.
It may require a preamplifier in the radio
I receive questions from those who try for direct comparisons to a Beverage
antenna. There are a few that have put the time in to find how the BOG antenna
works. K2AV, Guy also has taken time to get the facts.
Because of the closeness to the earth, the BOG velocity factor is often below
.5
One way to move up the sweet spot on a BOG that has been mushed down is
to go to the center of the BOG wire and carefully pull the wire up from its
mushed down position a few feet at a time. Pull up just a few feet at a
time and recheck the sweet spot each time until you move it back on
frequency.

To BOG, or not to BOG, that is the question.
Many are aware of the good, and bad points of the antenna.
Good:
Is out of sight.
Requires a small space to function well
Typically has less noise than an above ground Beverage
As disturbed condx (QRN crashes) begin, it can be the quietest antenna.
Hello Bruce,
This is a very interesting subject.
I am about to maybe test a BOG here at my French QTH and I am wondering
if there are any tests made with best terminating resistance (235ohm? )
should I use a 9:1 transformer or 10:1 ?
how does it perform compared to a usuall beverage?
Can I
