Wow, even though I haven't been very active on 160, I'm pretty sure Herb
was one of my very first DX contacts in 1964 on whatever band, probably 15.
Seems like he was still posting on the reflectors just a few days ago.
Very Sad,

Just seen this . . . and so sad to hear the news.
As others have said, Herb was one of the real stalwarts of Top Band DX . .
and consistently one of the big signals here in Europe.
I think I first worked him back in 1970, a few months after I was licensed.
I just looked back in my (paper) Log
Very sorry to hear this news. I can't begin to count the number of
contacts I have had with him over the years.
73 Herb Gud DX and super rates.

It is saddening to hear that Herb has passed. He was my first real DX
contact back in 1975 on 160 and filled the log so many more times over
the years. Truly a great 160m contester and Dx'er of the likes of Stew,
W1BB and Wally, W8LRL. I have long memories of working him with 100W in
old days
Very saddening news, had 72 great qsos with Herb since 1982, 60 of them
on Topband.

Such sad news. Herb was always there in contests. Often struggling with
static at his end he always stayed with it to try to pull stations through.
I remember working him from the T32C DXpedition in 2011. Having worked

So sorry to hear about Herb.
He was the landmark of Caribbea in all main Topband contests for decades.
My first QSO with him was in October 1973. Received his card with marking
'First ever OH/KV4'.
Last QSO with him was in Stew Perry in December last year.
RIP Herb

Sad news.
It is difficult to imagine now 160m band without this person, without this call
sign.
Sleep well our friend.
Eternal flight to you on the air ...

Worked Herb at least 15 times on 160, in contests here in NV (as W7RN) and
from my little apartment QTH in Monterey. Great ears, a great ham, a true 160
beaconwill miss him greatly. Condolences and prayers for his family

Thanks info. Dan,
That is very sad news for me too.
He and I had been 160m friends for nearly 50 years.
I just QSO with him in the Stew Perry Contest in March
and I can't believe he's gone.
I'm really sad that I can't hear his signal anymore.
RIP Herb.

It is with great regret
Herb was my inspiration for getting on 160 in the first place. Herb spoke at a
New England DXCC convention in the early 70s (before I graduated from high
school in 1972) and played a recording of some summertime 160 DX (a G3 CQing
as heard in KV4). For some reason that made me want to do the
