an Omega cap from the shunt to ground, You can start with a bread
slicer and replace with a fixed mica later when yu find what you need.

IMHO what you described would be a linear loaded loop and the folded
down wires should be at the top and the feed where you described. This
avoids some feedline interaction. But remember such an antenna
depending on spacing from the tower will couple significant energy to
the tower

It is not an easy job as the interior insulators may be brittle and
break. I did the clean out exercise to several tri-banders, A Hy-Gain
Explorer 14 and a Cushcraft A3S. I found bugs, even a lizard in one
trap. I clean the connection to the element from the trap and replaced
the
insulated wire on a small coil form could give me what I want.
Does anyone have any idea on how many turns on a 1 coil form it would
take to to this and not impact the 18 Mhz feed?
Please let me know so it will save me trips up and down the tower.

the aluminum
foil shielding or even building an aluminum enclosure with all leads
filtered may be what I have to do. I will also ask the DSL provider if
they have any newer modems.
