Hello Top Band enthusiasts.
This year we had extreme QRN for most of the contest, throughout
Australia, so when signals were workable, it was still almost impossible
to make qso's.
We only had good prop to JA and USA / VE / Europe was almost non
existent here.
Even though prop to JA was

I made 138 contacts in two days with my little squirt gun station here.
The highlight for me was KH6LE my first KH6 contact on 160.. thanks Lloyd.
Few other highlights were TA1K P40AA LX7I C6AGU PJ4P…
Heard and tried to work some EU stations but could not be heard.
I was running 500 to 800
I did about 10 hours of the contest from DM12. Ended up with ~4000
points better than last year. A few 6s, a single 8, but no KH/KL or EU
stations. Worked pretty much all of VEs but one special was VO2AC,
best DX PJ2T, with a CO2 not too far behind. Was hoping to find D4C
but no luck. TX antenna
I agree that conditions were a long way from being ideal. Friday was less
ideal than Saturday. However, from here in Virginia I managed to work 20
sixes, 33 sevens and 60 fives and that with a very good beverage pointed at
Europe. If I heard a weak signal answering my CQ and I was having

I was only on this weekend for abt 6 hours, so am not an authority of what
happened on 160..by a long shot.
I did hear EU both evenings well before SS here and was able to eek out a
few west coast earlier than normal it seemed (with difficulty).

Good job. Unfortunately the conditions from the West coast were the

Jim,
You might mention that you are on the east coast, at least, that's was
qrz.com says.
Sure wondered how you worked 58 eu from w6 land. I haven't worked more than
a dozen EU from AZ in any recent 160m tests.

Hi Rick,
You are correct. I am 425 miles from the ocean. As DF2 PY would like to say- I
am located in the far LEFT COAST.
Either way the conditions were really poor for me with only 5 European stations
in the log. I chased down EU spots that were normally extremely loud but
nothing heard. I

When I worked you, I remember it took me several fills to get
your call, even though it's on my mental list of familiar calls.
That's not good
