Thank you all so much for your messages! Yes, it is a .rdf file. I will try
your suggestions and if I have any questions, I will write again.

Re: [topbraid-users] Importing an existing RDF/XML-abbreviated file into new project

2018-07-11 Thread Holger Knublauch
Rob, I think you are referring to something else than the original post,
which was about RDF/XML files. When you open an .xml file, TBC would ask
you if you already have a file with class definitions. You can produce
those by opening one of your .xml "instance" files, let the system
generate the classes, then delete the instances and save the file as
RDF. (I guess you may also want to fix the namespaces). Once you have
done that you can open other XML files against the same single model.

On the original question, if you have your .rdf file opened and TBC and
still don't see any classes, try "Find all locally defined resource"
from the tool bar to see if there are any RDF resources in the file at
all. If you still don't see anything, please feel free to send a copy of
your file as an attachment.

The XML importer makes these up per file and stuffs them in with the
instances... which i dont like much.. i would much rather a separate
imported ontology i can specify because often i have many similar xml
files i want a single model for.

You also need to open file in TBC not as a text file. Classes show up
then. You have to select a clasd for the instances view to work...
SPARQL then also works if the file is in focus.

If you have a file, you can simply copy and paste it in your 5.5.2
workspace. You do not need to use import. The file, however,
should be unzipped. When you are saying you do not see classes and
properties, do you see the file you are wanting to open? If you
do, what happens when you double click to open it?

If you are not seeing the file, keep in mind that functionality
you are trying to use (import from Archive) is not specific to
TopBraid Composer. This is general Eclipse functionality so you
can google Eclipse information about using Import from Archive and
any problems that there could be between versions of Eclipse.

Afaict TBC will not show classes unless you include OWL or RDFS class
definitions and specifically open the file.
The XML importer makes these up per file and stuffs them in with the
instances... which i dont like much.. i would much rather a separate
imported ontology i can specify because often i have many similar xml files

Make sure the file is of type .rdf (i.e. not .xml)

You can actually drag and drop the file into the new 5.5.2 project once you’ve
created the project.
