I haven't, but it sounds like it could be a firewall problem.
Does the NAS have a firmware firewall at all? If so, can you check that
port 3483/TCP (i.e. the SlimProtocol port) is open for access on the
local network?

As far as I have been able to determine the NAS doesn't
Port 3483 udp is the server discovery port ,this is the port that
enables the Touch to auto-detect a server .
TYhe server broacast it's presence this way.
You can trick the Touch by using the remote server setting and add you
NAS by it's local ip ,this works ok if the NAS has the same ip all

Surely the UDP broadcast is only necessary if you want auto-detecting of
the server? If I type in the ip address of the server as a remote
library on the Touch, this should work? My other server doesn't have
port 3483 open, and the Touch finds it okay by its ip address.
For the same $800 you can do far better than Bose, particularly if you
already have a Blu-ray player.

EDO has two main points: 1. allow one to connect a USB DAC directly to
TOUCH and 2. allow playing of 24/192 from TOUCH (from USB, S/PDIF, or
Optical digital outs).
Sorry, I wasn't very clear. EDO doesn't work on analog outs from TOUCH
as the analogs are turned off by EDO.
Optical and 192 ? can be the DAC too in some cases not always the source
(or both)

I switched from Optical to Coax and now it's playing beautifully! Isn't
Optical 192 compliant? Not that I care ... but good to know... for
others out there.
I think that toslink upper limit is 96 kHz...

Toslink as a spec is more than capable of 24/192. But a lot of toslink
hardware imposes limits to 96.

I'd guess that your DAC can't handle 192 via optical and also its USB
doesn't work correctly

There are several speed grades of TOSLINK, the lowest speed grades just
barely work with 96, 192 is beyond them. The higher speed grades can
handle 192 quite well, but if you
how do I get the log in order to find out what's going on in my case?

I do think you should have 3483 udp/tcp open I'm not sure something else
depends on it too .
I don't think this port can be completely blocked for a functioning
server ?
Why not try the system with it's recommended settings ? and then
continue to fault trace if this does

The problem is that the NAS Linux distribution has no firewall

Weird if it does not have iptables ( which I find strange ) or any other
fw app how come that port is
I just changed my router to an AE I am trying to get iPeng to work on my

And a 50% wifi signal is not great. Can you move the router a bit.
Sometimes even a few inches one way or the other can make a big

I installed the router over the weekend and did a couple days of
traveling without doing anything but watching Apple TV. The Touch also
did a software update; the second since the reset this morning.

Toby,
Thanks for the suggestions on alternate Theater systems. I have been
researching for a few weeks and find there is almost too much
information to digest. After looking at reviews for both the Denon and
Yamaha I think the Yamaha RX-V371 really delivers a host of great
features for $189. I
Watch out a bit for micro solutions , the smallness itself is a

this sells a lot , to make them to small to function properly , this
usually means that
What I mean if you just want 2 speakers go for a normal stereo music
sounds better and movies good enough in many cases.
If you want a home theater get a home theater :)
