The USB protocol is definitely much more complicated than the SD
protocol, so the processor will be doing more with USB. Given that
running player and server on the Touch can come close to maxing out its
resources I would think that using SD cards would be better in that you
would be less likely

A friend of mine swears that the sound quality from the SD CARD slot of
his SBT is the better than the USB slot. I'm just wondering if this is
in his head or if there's any data to back this up. Is one slot of
better quality/or faster than the other?

As long as you don't get drop outs any of them are fast enough and the
quality will be the same if the file can be read .
If there is a difference ( which is unlikely ) the explanation must be
something else , power demand on the 5v for USB , noise from the USB
drive . Noise from the USB drive
Great reply, thanks. I don't even think he tried a USB drive, he's
actually talking about USB sticks vs SD cards. I'll do a listening test
myself when I can get a half decent USB stick. I have a compatible SD
card already.
