Bryn, thank for the suggested work around. However, it is not a workaround for
me. My issue is that I have over 100 Remmina RDP desktop configurations saved
that connect to numerous computers on different VPNs by computer name (not by
ip address). However, I cannot ping those computers by name
I updated to 4.9.0 kernel. Bug still persisting.

unable to install apps
I'm having this problem with an ethernet connection and openvpn on
Ubuntu 16.04.01 LTS. When booting or rebooting, the network won't come
up at all. But, if I select "Disconnect VPN" the network comes up. After
the network comes up, I can enable the VPN and the client connects to
the server.
