Note: the problem is now even worse than what I reported above. If I put
"search kamens.us" in /etc/resolv.conf and then try to resolve "jik5",
"jik5.kamens.us", or "jik5.kamens.us.", all of which should resolve
successfully, they all fail with SERVFAIL.

Yesterday, I upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 via 14.04 to 16.04 (LTS version
in each case). From 14.04 on, I was unable to graphically log in. A few
seconds after the login (varying between 1 and 10 s), the screen changed
to a pattern with dense white stripes
Looking at the autopkgtest failures - the network-manager s390x seems to
be failing for every package since over a month. It shouldn't be related
to the modemmanager changes. I might hint it in later.
